molassesfan (196), Wilmington, North Carolina, USA Jul 15, 2007 Bottle at Brickskeller. Pours dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma of raisins, plums, licorice, and roasted malt. Flavor is dominated by black patent to the point of being uncomfortable. Beer is overly carbonated. This one needs some work.
satan165 (132), River Grove, Illinois, USA Oct 7, 2008 definate dubbel characteristics in the nose, raisins and dried fruit. caramel-ly brown color fades to a sunset. a bit spicy but still moderately subdued, a touch of cocoa at the end, then mostly dry. more caramel notes then chocolate or coffee. a bit of booze is present. nothing too radical but certainly worth a try and far from a failure. BeerGestapo (351), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 2, 2008 Brewed in Lithuania !! Courtesy of AFI96 thanks Waylo. Pours deep garnet color with a lingering tan head. Aroma is of prunes, dark fruit, and malts. The taste is much of the same with the addition of figs. Now, I know the bottle has porter on the label....... but this is not a porter, i’ts a dopplebock !! Overall this was very pleasent. afireinside96 (495), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 1, 2008 .5L bottle served in a stem glass, shared with BeerGestapo. Pours a hazy deep garnet with a receding bubbly tan head. Smells of dark fruits, raisins, prunes, figs and general sweet malts, slightly cidery, very dopplebock-like. Taste is very much a dopplebock, sweet malty liquid with some dark fruit. Other than the name and its origin this beer is a dopplebock, and a decent one at that. dchmela (772), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 23, 2008 Bottle courtesy Durhambeer. Pours a dark brownish red with a thick tan head. Sweet malt, hard candy, bread and a hint of citrus in the aroma. Slightly thin malty sweet taste. Chewy, bready, fruity sweet aftertaste. Decent, but I thought some of the Polish offerings are a better example of the style. zebracakes (999), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark opaque ruby, off white head. Aroma is malty, heavy graham cracker and caramel. Flavor is really malty and sweet, some smoke and bitterness, but sweeter than I would have preferred. I can’t say that I’m let down, but I really wanted to be impressed by this beer. Oh well.
