Utenos Porter

Brewed in Lithuania !! Courtesy of AFI96 thanks Waylo. Pours deep garnet color with a lingering tan head. Aroma is of prunes, dark fruit, and malts. The taste is much of the same with the addition of figs. Now, I know the bottle has porter on the label....... but this is not a porter, i’ts a dopplebock !! Overall this was very pleasent.

.5L bottle served in a stem glass, shared with BeerGestapo. Pours a hazy deep garnet with a receding bubbly tan head. Smells of dark fruits, raisins, prunes, figs and general sweet malts, slightly cidery, very dopplebock-like. Taste is very much a dopplebock, sweet malty liquid with some dark fruit. Other than the name and its origin this beer is a dopplebock, and a decent one at that.

Bottle courtesy Durhambeer. Pours a dark brownish red with a thick tan head. Sweet malt, hard candy, bread and a hint of citrus in the aroma. Slightly thin malty sweet taste. Chewy, bready, fruity sweet aftertaste. Decent, but I thought some of the Polish offerings are a better example of the style.

Bottle. Pours dark opaque ruby, off white head. Aroma is malty, heavy graham cracker and caramel. Flavor is really malty and sweet, some smoke and bitterness, but sweeter than I would have preferred. I can’t say that I’m let down, but I really wanted to be impressed by this beer. Oh well.

From a 500 ml bottle with a lot code of 003UP but an "04" date notched off. So this one may have been around for awhile. But I thought the mahogany-brown pour with foamy tan head was kind of nice. The head didn’t last long. The malted aroma was sweet and pleasing. Not smoky like most porters. Nice body. The taste was malted and a bit dry. I thought this was rather nice.
