UPDATED: AUG 28, 2014 Bottle(RBESG 2014, Grand Tasting):Grains and vegetables in the aroma, hops hardly detectable; very pale golden, no head to speak of; watery MF, light sweetish-bitter flavour; delicate lemony-grainy finish. An insult to my central-european taste-buds…

The golden nectar... An institution. West End Brewing, FX Matt, Shultz & Dooley, Deece Brew Co., whoever is truly behind this enigma is an all star. Pours 33 karat gold, watch the head. Explosive barnyard hay & faint lemon funk all over that big fat nose, super choice floral hop. Lean mean body, silky smooth finish. Pilsner is an understatement... This is a "Beer", tried and true. Esto Perpetua.

Utica Club has a medium-to-thick white head, a mostly clear, golden appearance, with minimal lacing but very noticeable fine particulate matter suspended throughout. The aroma is of sweet grain and a slight sourdough note. Taste is of those elements, with just the faintest hop bitternes, some paper, and also an unfortunate chalky aspect. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Utica Club finishes refreshing and pretty crisp. RJT

I am slightly biased on this one. I once let a girl from the west coast try this beer (from a can, mind you), making the mistake of saying it was comparable to PBR. She loves PBR but gagged when she tried this beer and couldn’t finish it.
The aroma is like home, the appearance is like the golden sun mural in downtown on gloomy winter afternoon, the taste is like golden wheat covered in road salt and snow. Overall, to quote a friend of mine, "It’s not a good beer, but it is a great beer".
More often than not I drink it out of a can, but it is much better on tap. The bottom line is, you really can’t beat it for the price. It’s extremely affordable and it definitely grows on you.

Tasted on 2/7/14 from a bottle at the Friday night tasting at RBWG Asheville, big thanks to Leighton for inducting me into the club. Pours clear pale golden with a thin white head that leaves thin lace. The nose is clean lager with some sweetish malt, and just a touch of citrus hops. The flavor is about the same, a very clean pale lager with the bread malt dominant and just a touch of the lightly bitter citrus hops. The body is very light with nearly fizzy carbonation and a short same finish.
