Bottle. [thank you, Skortila/caesar]
Pours deep opaque red-brown with a fine, creamy and rather fizzy off-white head. Sweet malty aroma with plums and quite a lot of spices. Fine, rather light mouthfeel. Flavour is nice, quite roasted, good sweet chocolate, fine hoppiness. Nice, dry finish. A very good bock, but not a touch on the La Trappe.

(Bottle 30 cl) Courtesy of MiP. Vintage 2005. Hazy, reddish brown with big, floating impurities and a small, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt and dried fruit. Rather full-bodied with some sweetish, roasted malt. The finish is dry. OK, but not exactly outstanding. 230807

Hand labeled bottle form Bert’s Bierhuis, Utrecht. Poured a deep brown with a bocky sweet aroma. flavor was not overly sweet (like so many dutch bocks, but there was a pleasant roastiness, with some slight fruit hints. body was perfect smooth with just a bit or carbonation. The best dutch bock hands down, but sadly I’ve only seen it in Utrecht.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, FINLAND - JAN 29, 2006
A foamy and frothy medium tan head pours with soda like playfulness and rests atop a deep mahogany body that reveals ruby tones when held to a light. A rich malt nose, primarily of dark bread, comes forward with strong mineral notes leading to an almost smoky quality. The sweetness verges on caramel but dares not. Soft flower aromas and a trace of wet grass reveal subtle hopping. Black cherries, candied plums and a hint of licorice add to the experience. Firmly sweet throughout while never encroaching upon cloying. Light acidity in the middle and moderate finishing bitterness help in this aim. The flavor generally resembles the aroma with, perhaps, a greater focus on the fruit and less on the malt. Substantial body with a smooth and delicately oily texture and moderate carbonation. Very clean, very refined, very classy.
