Bottle, sourced in Geneva. Mid coloured lager with strong initial carbonation. Quite distinguished as a pale lager, decent enough malty base and then has a nice bitter hop finish. A tasty lager, also felt quite fresh. The bitterness made it very drinkable.

Retrospective rating. Golden-amber ahzy with medium white cap. NIce balanced taste with mild bitterness, rich of nuances. This rating is for beer on tap, for unknown reasons the bottled beer is much worst.

Maris (1384) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - JUL 22, 2010
On tap in a 500ml glass in Vecriga beer garden on 22/7/2010. Has quite a distinct aroma for a pale lager, with a floral, honey/pollen and bready aroma. Sweet honey is the most notable flavour. Has a quite firm and lasting hop finish. A lovely, high quality lager which is perfect to quaff on a warm summer’s afternoon in Riga.

Sweet and slightly tart malt aroma. The taste is malty with a distinct hops character. The aftertaste has a nice dry hops bitterness reminiscent of a Pilsner. The tastiest Latvian beer I have tasted to date! Not Bad!

From the archives: I was searching for this beer for some times. I was driving through Riga, but it was never available in supermarkets. Creamy, with specific Latvian yeast aroma. Slightly sour.

Pretty good for a PL, the yeasty, almost bready flavor of "living beer" is characteristic, and generally welcome. A bit hoppy at the end though

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2015 On tap in Riga. Pours light copper with thick, slightly off-white head. Some lacing down the side of the glass. Fresh, spicey hop aroma. Doughy, musky malt. Distinctly smells of honey. Aroma is key here, taste seems secondary. Just wanted to stick my nose right in the glass. Flavor is bright, grassy hop bitterness. Aftertaste is prominent oily bitterness. Mouthfeel is fluffy and a little oily. [re-rate] Bottle - expiration Sept. 19th marked on bottle, sampled Sept. 4th - brought by Latvian relatives visiting in July 2015. Pours clear golden with moderate white creamy head - leaving some lacing. - nose is distincy and unique- pleasant and pungent unbaked bread yeast dominates along with mild but slightly spicy german-like hops (not exactly german noble, but similar to tettnanger). Flavor is very good - earthy, and truly artisan tasting - somewhat ale-like esters give the beer body and a bit of roundness in the middle, beer begins crisp with leafy, herbal - whole leaf? - hops, has just a touch of malt sweetness and creamy texture in the middle and finishes with a wash of noble-like hoppiness - green, mildly bitter, palate clearing and a touch resinous - that lasts for minutes into the finish. - 4.0
