Vuoden Olut 2009 (HBF). Pyökin savussa kuivatut ohramaltaat yhdistettynä perisuomalaiseen sahdin valmistuksessa käytettyyn katajaan - makuelämys vailla vertaa! Pykmestar SavuKataja on mainio näyte suomalaisesta oluenpano-osaamisesta.

Thanks Andrè. Nice smooth smoky character with a chestnut sweetness and just an hint of juniper. Is warming and velvety, sweet without being cloying. Lovely stuff.

500 ml bottle from Alko. Hazy brown with tanned head. Smoked bacon, bbq, smoked sausage and meat. A lot like smoked fish traditionally smoked with juniper wood. Semi sweet with medium bitterness and medium carbonation. Nice!

Dark brown reddish colour, medium beige head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruits, spice, bacon, smoke. Sweet taste with lightly bitter finish and bitter-sweet aftertaste. Medium body and average carbocation. Nice beer, very enjoyable.

Mahalo rosenbergh for this treat from Finland! Reminds me of a rare steak just off the BBQ grill. Plenty of smoke and a bit of spicy brown mustard, maple smoked bacon, very foodie! Dark brown, opaque with a small beige head. Sweet smoke flavor, a bit of residual stickiness, slick feel with very small bubbles in the carbonation that seem to linger on the tongue like tiny smokey pop rocks. Now that I think about it, this would be a great marinade for steak! Has a lingering bitter aftertaste. The 9% is very well hidden under the layers of flavor.

Bottle from euro local swap 3/2015, cheers VastActiv! Pours brown with a beige head. Smoke, beechwood, juniper berries, caramel, bacon, dark fruit, molasses, elderberries, liquorice. Creamy, sweet, medium body, above average carbonation, fairly dry finish. Initially the smoke seems to dominate, but it really opens up in the finish.

Dark malts, caramel in aroma. Also smoke. Smoke takes over juniper. Feels light in taste. Very drinkable and mild.

UPDATED: SEP 27, 2015 Bottle. Pours chestnut in colour with medium tan head. Aroma is yeast, malts, smoke and bananas. Taste is sweet caramels, yeast and reminds of sahti, probably because of junipers.

Bottle. Pours brown with a nice head. Pleasant smoky aroma, but not overpowered. Sausage taste. Delicious!

A slightly hazy dark brown body with a scarce tan head. Nose has mild notes of smoked beechwood, caramel, juniper and liquorice. The taste is quite full and sweet with a mildlybitter finish. Soft creamy carbonation and heavy palate. Quite nice heavy smoked beer with a good balance.

My Bottom Line:
Wooden smoke envelops this compelling brew’s juniper spiciness and fruity undertones, drawing earthy details onto a malt-rich finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sizeable head of foam covers the hazy dark brown with orange edges.
-Mouthfeel is rich yet easygoing.
-Alcohol is not prominent at all.
-Mild caramel is tasted here and there, draped in smoke.
-This is like a Schlenkerla Rauchbier blended with a traditional Vossabrygg. Fascinating stuff!

Bottle. Thx, Timo!
