Vuoden Olut 2009 (HBF). Pyökin savussa kuivatut ohramaltaat yhdistettynä perisuomalaiseen sahdin valmistuksessa käytettyyn katajaan - makuelämys vailla vertaa! Pykmestar SavuKataja on mainio näyte suomalaisesta oluenpano-osaamisesta.

Thanks Andrè. Nice smooth smoky character with a chestnut sweetness and just an hint of juniper. Is warming and velvety, sweet without being cloying. Lovely stuff.

UPDATED: SEP 27, 2015 Bottle. Pours chestnut in colour with medium tan head. Aroma is yeast, malts, smoke and bananas. Taste is sweet caramels, yeast and reminds of sahti, probably because of junipers.

Bottle. Pours brown with a nice head. Pleasant smoky aroma, but not overpowered. Sausage taste. Delicious!

A slightly hazy dark brown body with a scarce tan head. Nose has mild notes of smoked beechwood, caramel, juniper and liquorice. The taste is quite full and sweet with a mildlybitter finish. Soft creamy carbonation and heavy palate. Quite nice heavy smoked beer with a good balance.

My Bottom Line:
Wooden smoke envelops this compelling brew’s juniper spiciness and fruity undertones, drawing earthy details onto a malt-rich finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sizeable head of foam covers the hazy dark brown with orange edges.
-Mouthfeel is rich yet easygoing.
-Alcohol is not prominent at all.
-Mild caramel is tasted here and there, draped in smoke.
-This is like a Schlenkerla Rauchbier blended with a traditional Vossabrygg. Fascinating stuff!

Bottle. Thx, Timo!

500 ml bottle from my European Local Swap 2/2015 sender VastActiv, thanks!
Dark brown, copperish body, with a medium, creamy, beige head.
Aroma of dominant smokey bacon, sweet malts, some sweet fruits.
Taste follows this, with some more dryness, aromatic hops, some tea notes.
Medium, bit creamy mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes smokey, hoppy, a bit dry, sweet, a bit alcoholic.

Very nice. The nose is a bit too much dominated by the smoke, but the taste is really well balanced, beside the smoke with nice hop notes and sweet malts. Great, smooth smoked beer how I like it.

500ml bottle at home shared by Saeglopur, many thanks. brownish color, small off-white head. smells smoked, spices, bacon, berries, a bit milky, lightly leather. full body, a bit bubbly carbonation, full mouthfeel. tastes of bacon, some sweetness, spices, some malty roast, lightly fruity, plums, pines, grass, some berry notes. finishes with light bacon and pines. Interesting brew, taste is a bit sweet, but the bacon and hop notes are quite nice. I guess the sweetness is needed to make the connection between the smoke and hop notes. Overall a bit sweet though, but I would drink it again.

>> Deep amber pour, weaker beige foam. Nose is intense applewood bacon, dark cherry, smoked meat, powerful. Taste is really sweet though, intense brown sugar, cloying, sticky, hard to get down.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2015 Bottle. Tanned big big-bubbled head. Deep dark ruby brown. Pleasant fruity, malty and smokey aroma. Strong, sweet, tar, woods, some liqourice and cola. Medium bodied. Bit oily palate, low carbons. Well balanced and nice variety of notes. Let it warm a bit when stored on fridge for maximum taste.

5.4.2014. Smoky, piny, malty aroma. Taste is similar, smoke is quite strong. Smooth. Despite being valued, it’s still a smoke beer which is not for me.
