Nimensä mukaisesti lähes musta, pohjahiivakäymisellä valmistettu schwarzbier. Paahdetut erikoismaltaat tuovat olueen värin lisäksi paahteisen, lähes savuisen tuoksun ja kuivan lakritsimaisen maun.

Bottle at Helsinki Bryggeri. Head is mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (roasted grain, husks), with light notes of metal and paper. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky. Light to medium body, velvety texture, lively/soft carbonation. Surprisingly simple and nearly unpleasant, especially compared to the Savu smoked beer.

Impaled Nazarene edition, 500ml bottle from a nearby hypermarket. Very dark brown colour, small, white fairly persistent head, roasty aroma that reminds a bit of roasted sunflower seeds with hints of licorice. Fairly dry taste, medium carbonation, mouthfeel is a bit watery though. Not an insanely impressive dunkel, but tasty anyway and not annoyingly sweet as the sometimes can be. Props for the amazing goat-pentagram label also.

Bottle at Bryggeri Helsinki, 4.5%, best by October 2013. Deep brown body with a short fine tan-colored head. Lots of toasted / charred bread crusts, light cola, moderate chalk / yeast levels. Somewhat musty. Medium body, dry, starchy, charred bread and grains, not roast-y or chocolate-y, just chat heavy. Dusty / basement-like at times. The graininess become a little much, in the finish its the worst - starchy, acerbic, dry, etc.

500ml bottle (Maatilatori, Helsinki)
Sweetish sticky roast aroma. A kindof nuttiness - like pine nuts maybe. Fairly full palate, a nice roast, but still a little bit lacking in some directions, but hard to identify. Slightly metallic bitterness in the finish. Finish also has a dry burnt roast, and later even some walnut papers. Perhaps a bit dry to be thirst quenching, but at least it’s not the sugary sweet schwarz style that some Germans brew.

First day: 6-4-5-3-9=2.7
Coffee aroma. Dark reddy brown. Burnt and hoppy bitterness. Not very sweet, but a bit milky. Would prefer a bigger malty body from a schwartz.
Second day:6-4-6-3-11=3.0
More fruit-loaf as well as coffee aroma, more full-bodied.
