4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 chinchill (662) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 18, 2013
Poured from a stubby, brown 33cl bottle into a snifter. Most of the dark, muddy sediment at the bottom of the bottle was added in the pour. The beer was dark brown under a small bone-colored head. The head soon died to a top coat but ample and attractive sticky lacing was left clinging to the glass as the level slowly reduced.
Sweet and fruity aroma. Sniffing this is the only way one gets a hint that the ABV is over 4-5%.
The flavor is mildly sweet with a slight bitterness and a touch of sour. There’s a load of dark fruit over medium and medium-dark malts with a hints of smoke, wood, and coffee in the finish and aftertaste. Hints of plums, prunes, dried cherries, roasted nuts and fruit cake. Yum [8.5]
M: Full, creamy smooth feel with fine, soft carbonation.
O: A very satisfying and and drinkable brune. The 8% ABV is mostly well hidden.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ogivlado (5042) - Zagreb, CROATIA - MAY 8, 2013
Bottled 330ml. -Brown coloured, medium to big sized creamy brownish head, caramelish nose. Light roasted malt, berries, mild spices and not too strong alcohol. Dry spicy and a bit too sweet finish.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Douberd (683) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 6, 2013
Stubby bottle, 330 ml, at home. Poured into a tulip glass. ABV 8%
Very dark mahogany brown colour on the body, big off-white head on top. Good retention with nice rings of lacing left around the glass.
Very nice aroma of chocolate mostly, roasted malts following and the alcohol being quite obvious.
Taste follows the aroma, roasted malts, lots of chocolate, very obvious alcohol which is not offensive in any way but instead helps the flavours to develope, and some little vanilla hints. Earthy aftertaste, with some (unbelievably) banana notes, very well balanced between sweetness and bitterness.
Medium thick body, very good amount of carbonation.
Once again positively surprised by the Val-Dieu, this is one of the best dubbels I’ve drunk
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Hemogoblin (18) - - MAY 5, 2013
Thin head, not much carbonation. nutty, caramely, resin, banana, ginger. A fine Belgian but nothing really worth noting. Middle of the road, but does the trick. Nothing offensive here. Not my first choice, but a good choice.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Benfi (307) - DENMARK - APR 17, 2013
Pours rich ruby with a creamy tanned head. Looks absolutely beautiful in the glass. Aroma of molasses, brown sugar, caramel, yeast and malts. Flavour is sweet and spicey and has a carbonated mouthfeel that seems to fit quite good with this beer.
