Shared a 33cl from Cora (Luxembourg). Pours a cloudy dark brown colour with a tan fluffy head. Aroma is caramel, fruit and malts. Average carbonation and medium body. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter, well balanced. Overall, a good beer. Very drinkable but nothing remarkable.

Bottle. Pours cloudy dark copper brown with stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel, and fruit, with alcohol notes in the long nose. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, with fruity notes, and sparse touches of roast. Discernible, warming alcohol presence. A decent Dubbel, but nothing revolutionary.

Funny, have had this many times in the past but that was before I made any notes and never bothered to make any ratings afterwards even when I was making notes. Now Secret Sinterklaas send me a bottle, so I should rate it. Also funny to see how my palate might have changed/evoluated... Bottle: Thanks Secret Sinterklaas: Served in a Chouffe glass: Medium to bigger sized, airy, ashy beige to off white foamy head on top of a deep dark hazy red ish brown colored beer. Aromas of autumnal herbs, dried leaves, caramel, raisin, barley malt toast, spices: mint and cloves, some toffee, a light vinous tone and a hint of liquorice wood. Flavours of toast, bitters, autumnal herbs, malt toast, malt bitters, hint of wood toast, caramel, some light liquorice and cough syrup tones, herbal toast and herbal bitter, some sweet wood tones with spices, light alcohol touch and a sprinkle of warmth. Aftertaste is a warm mix of bitters, toast, dried leaves and autumnal herbs, some liquorice wood and caramel/toffee tones. Low carbo, creamy spicy mouthfeel, good medium to lightly fuller bodied and a creamy texture. After all those beers, I still like this beer. Balanced and easy drinkable, yet towards a certain complexity and full of flavours.

33cl bottle. Dark brown with medium ivory head. NOSE : milk chocolate with dried raisins and figs. Some smoked plums in the background. Licorice and clove when shaken. Also some other fruits like apples and cherries. SIP : oily texture with a medium thick body. It has moderate carbonation. Sweet beer but not cloying sweet. It gets more acidic with yeast and hops and in the end it is a bit dry and earthy. Sweetness is prevailing until the finish and mingle with the notes of chocolate tart and dried figs. The acidity is reminding me the aftertaste we get from dried raisins. It evolves with notes of licorice and clove and become more and more dry. Still well contained and overpowered by huge malt presence. The aftertaste is earth like. OVERALL : it is one of the dubbels I will not forget and would surely recommend as an example for this style. Well balanced and not off putting. Easy to drink with a great deal of booze that e just don’t feel on the beginning. Nice one.

Hazy dark chestnut, creamy tan head, dissipates slowly, good layer remains, nice lacing; roasted malt nose with fruity tones, dark fruit, bread, caramel, brown sugar, almonds; mild medium sweet, roasty, coffee, slightly bitter, fruity tones (raisins, figs); medium to heavy body, bit sticky texture, average carbo; smooth sweetbitter finish, light spicy and fruity undertones

Mothroy (80) - - NOV 24, 2013
A robust brune. Lots of rich roasted grain in the nose and flavour which is balanced by a slight sweetness and fruit overtones. Bottled conditioned. The overall character leans toward a stout rather than the more traditional sweet, malty brunes.
