Bottle as gift @home Pours very dark brown with a medium creamy offwhite frothhead, nice lacing. Taste is very malty with some sweet tones of dark fruit. Maybe even a little cheese. Body is heavy, creamy texture. Medium carbonation. The finish is ver abrupt, a little bitter. Overall a very good beer, perfect for a dark, rainy night.

Bottle @ home. Pours dark amber with a medium off-white head. Sweet malty aroma with a touch of dark fruit. Sweet almost brown sugar flavor with a touch of dark fruit and yeastiness.

Bottle 330 ml. Pours dark brown with thick frothy beige head. Aroma and taste feature malt, nuts, dark fruits, caramel and spices. Good balance. Very smooth. Surprisingly tiny mouthfeel. Good dubbel

Bottle at the Delirium Monasterium, Brussels. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is light sweet malt. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich red berry fruit, yeast, malt alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not so bad but a little sweet for me.

Lekker bruin bier. Kleur diep en ondoorzichtig bruin. Vaagt een beetje weg met oude kaas.

Chalky, sweet and suprisingly pleasant. Nothing wrong with a good dubbel/brune. Looking forward to their other beers. Bottle from De Zwart in Wilnis

Abbey dubbel since 1996, like the other Val-Dieus brewed in a former monastery, but by laymen instead of monks. Hazy bronze coloured beer with moussy off-white head and estery aroma, fruity, some orange, raisins, candi sugar, yeasty with medium sweetish taste and spicy hints with mild herbal hops in the finish. Ordinary but decent.

Misitg donkerbruin bier met snelzakkende schuimkraag. Aroma bevat gematigd mouten, lichte hop en lichte gisten. Smaak is licht zurig, dan zoet en uiteindelijk licht bitter. Een smakelijk bier!

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours clear dark brown, long-lasting off-white head. Nutty aromas - hazelnuts and almonds, toast too. Touch of icing sugar. Taste is nutty, brown malt, demerara sugar Quite sweet, but seems to hold together with a light herbal bitterness. Nice.

It appears cloudy dark red-brown with a tan head. The aroma has (red) fruits, caramel, chocolate and licorice. Despite that the taste isn’t heavy but medium sweet with light sour and light bitter tones. Because of this and the creamy mouthfeel it reminds me of the Bière du Boucanier Red. An enjoyable abbey beer.
