The new masterpiece from the Val-Dieu brewery. A very complex and full-bodied beer with a long aftertaste. The brewmaster advices to cellar the beer for a year for it to unfold its full potential.

Pours a deep brown/red with a big off-white head. The aroma consists of Belgian dark fruit, a peppery spicyness, and bready yeast. The taste is dominated by malt up front, with plum flavors, hops, and more pepper spicyness. Finishes a bit sweet, but has lingering Belgian esters. A well balancedbig beer. The alcohol is well hidden.

Bottle from Brusin’ Ales. Pours black with an inch of khaki foam. leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. has some of that nice Belgian yeast thing on the nose along with some maltiness. Hides it’s big booze content nicely. Rich and malty on the tongue. Finishes clean. A nice surprise from a brewery I don’t know a lot about.

75cl bottle, best before 03/2011. It looks like it leaked around the cork so hopefully it is still good. Pours a flat dark brown with no head and completely still. Bummer. Nose is of strong dark brown sugar and maybe even molasses. Lots of alcohol too but I found it to be fitting. Taste is moderately sweet with again a lot of brown sugar, toffee, maple syrup. Not quite fruity like your usual quad, all sugar. Alcohol does warm you quite a bit. Body is medium, carbonation nil and mouthfeel syrupy. Overall I’m not sure if I should have reviewed but it was still enjoyable even with everything fighting against it. I’ll try to cook with the rest of the bottle.

6L bottle during RBWG. Pours a cloudy brown with large frothy beige head. The aroma is raisin and caramel. Thin mouth with dark fruit, caramel, yeast, and light dry finish, good.

Brown color with small beige head. Yeasty and lots of raisins. Taste is more raisins, sugary, too sweet, in an unbalanced way. Carbonation is ok. Not quite my cup of tea.

Dit bier thuis gedronken. Bier is erg vol van smaak mer tonen van gedroogd fruit. Schuimkraag was gelijk weg helaas. Maar smaakte niet verkeerd.

3oz on tap Twenty Tap. Mostly clear reddish color. Thin off-white head. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of slick lighter carbonation, lightly soft texture. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, light bitter, lightly spicy.. Awesome dark fruit, mild spice, caramel malt. Good dubbel sort of flavor, I dig it. A bit sugary, makes it lean towards the belgian strong ale with the candi sugar. Solid belgian dark strong ale overall. A bit sugary sweet, but nice flavor too. I don’t mind it.

/Tommie and Petter. Over and out!
