apshah99 (77), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 18, 2008 Dark brown pour with thick light tan head. Aroma is weak, maybe citrus and yeast (perhaps the problem is I’m tasting in my basement where my girlfriend’s cat resides). Taste is malty sweet and bready, with licorice and figs/plums; crisp slightly sour finish. Lots of stuff going on, wonderful creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden. This is an excellent beer, although certainly not for everyone.
Maria (3963), Thisted, Denmark Aug 16, 2008 Courtesy of Yespr. Comes as Winter. It’s dark brown with a red hue and a dense, creamy head. The aroma is sourish with notes of malt, fruit, lilacs, light raisin and the flavour has quite some sweetness, notes of malt, candy sugar, raisin, caramel and light alcohol. The body is nice and full, but a bit too sweet and the sourness is disturbing me a little bit too. Notes of raisin and a hint of alcohol in the aroma. Flavor of molassis and plum and cough syrup. Medium velvet body with a hot finish. maniac (1949), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 21, 2008 C&C Bottle on 07/21/2008. Very dark black body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy off-white head. Roasty, toasty, rum soaked fruit, caramel, and molassas aroma. Big spicy flavor, rum soaked fruit, caramel, dark candi sugar with a spicy finish. Medium full body with moderate carbonation. MrBunn (826), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2008 Bottle. Pour is a nice brown with a dense tan head. Aromas are of nuts, burnt sugar and dark fruit. Flavor is a nice mix of the above with a high dose of alcohol that burns a bit around the edges. I would probably like this much better if the alcohol mellowed a bit, but at 10.5% I guess I have to resign myself to its presence. Extra high abv holds this back a bit in my opinion.
