2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 crossovert (2547) - Wisconsin, USA - JAN 6, 2012
Darker and ruddier than most tripels. It is decent. There is some tanginess, it isnt my favorite.

Bottle into snifter. Pour is orange with a big, fluffy white head. Voluminous head that leaves sticky lacing. The nose is very interesting and has a bunch of flavors. Tropical fruits such as honey mango, papaya, and pineapple come to mind with plenty of yeast and some sugary sweetness on the nose as well. Taste follow suit but with more of a bubble gum flavor and less tropical fruit. Banana sticks out to me though. This one is very sweet and most folks who don’t like the bitter beers will like this one very palatable. I think this one is almost too sweet. Good none the less.

In short: A gross buttery blonde ale from a Belgium Abbey that desperately needs better quality control
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed (tried to consume) approximately 8 months after receiving it through private importation, probably 1 year of age, maybe more.
The look: Cloudy yellow-blonde body topped by a medium white head
In long: Repulsive nose of buttery cereal, sweat and rotting fruits. Taste is even more gross. The taste is dominated by buttery bananas, rotting fruits, sweaty socks, etc. Only a few sips and then I drained pour the whole bottle, what a waste. I realize this was a bad bottle but this is not the first time I get a bad bottle from Val-Dieu and now for the first time ever I’m throwing the towel on a Belgium Abbey. I really got screwed buying this awful awful bottle. Do I want revenge? I am really pissed-off at Val-Dieu right now but I don’t have a mean bone in my body, however my liver wishes Val-Dieu would burn down.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Chipalsa (482) - Florida, USA - DEC 18, 2011
Poured a very bubbly and yellow body, soapy and white in the head. Aromas were grassy, fruity... overall sweet and rather mellow. You taste delicate fruit notes, some lemongrass as well when it comes to a dry finish. The aftertaste is tangy and warm from the generous ABV.

11/26/11, 750mL bottle. Surprisingly clear light copper pour, almost orange, with a big sudsy, almost soapy, off-white head. Surprisingly light aroma as well - touches of bready malts and a dash of light, citrusy fruity esters. Sweeter flavor with light candy sugar, light bready malts, and lingering orange peel and fruity esters. Surprisingly light and the 9% is hidden well. Not too shabby!

330 ml. bottle. Pours a light gold, a bit hazy, with a nice white head. Aroma of bread, fruit and malt. Taste is a bit sweet, fruits, malt and spices. Lots going on. Very good.
