500ml Bottle. The aroma is hoppy and slightly floral. The rich amber colour pours well but the head is quickly disapating. Tastewise there is the merest hint of citrus (lemon).

500 mL bottle from the Vale Brewery shop. Slightly cloudy and very fizzy golden/orange beer with a fair head on. Fairly nice yeast and hops aroma, a hint of fruit. A nice hop blend, bitter and quite complex. A nice drop but not going to set the world on fire.

Sampled this golden bitter in Esquires, Glasgow (JDW)in February 2009. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear pale straw in colour with a thin white open head. Faint dry dusty hops in the thin aroma with a hint of fresh green apples. Pale malt base gives refreshing almost weiss stle flavours with sweet fruit notes of overipe gooseberry and kiwi fruit to the fore. Could not detect any lemon and grapefruit flavours though? Distinct wheat/maize notes as the metallic tang of hop resins seep into the aftertaste. A dry bitter finish. An ok golden ale but lacking the complexity of similar strengthed golden ales like Harviestoun Schiehallion of Houstons St Peter’s Well.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2012 1)Bottle from The Wine Cellars, Lutterworth. Brassy gold with a low, patchy white head. Rustic and strange with drab woodland hop, boiled sweet and almond notes. Good creamy aftertaste equal parts Honey Nut Loops, sponge cake and apple turnover. Aroma of beeswax, dandelion, dank English woods. I sense the presence of honey. Just a beer. 536312.
2) Cask handpull, The Shoes, Nuneaton, 05/10/12. Thick-lacing gold freckling with lace. Pepper, orange and aniseed nose with good green sappy notes; maybe geranium. Aniseed and orange tang rounded with vanilla and biscuit. Pretty good. 747414.

[Cask at the William Robert Loosley (JDW), High Wycombe] Rich gold colour with a decent white head. Honey dominates with a hint of flowers. It’s a nice flavour, but by the end I found it rather sweet and syrup-y. Needs to bang in some bitter floral hops for balance.
