Hand pulled pint in a straight sleeve glass, poured at my local Spoonís on a Wednesday ĎReal Ale Dayí during Sep 2011 (all cask beers at £1.89 a pint). Amber, dirty golden coloured body, almost clear, but no quite. On top an off-white head of tight bubbles. The smell was of grains and grass, with a hoppy citrusy bitter-sweet undertone. Fairly sweet initially on the tongue, but the hops kick in fairly swiftly after that and it certainly has a bitter finish. It has a pronounced grainy feel in its taste and texture, almost gritty in fact, very different to most UK Premium Bitters. I prefer malts and sweeter beers normally, this didnít fall anywhere near that category, but I still enjoyed drinking it; in fact I had another pint just to make sure I got the flavours right for this review. Interesting brew, the first Iíve had from this brewery, Iíll look out for more.

Bottle at home, not sure exactly where it came from, but Vale beers arenít exactly rare. Poured a pale golden colour, with a thin white head. Aroma of peaches, grass and floral hops. Soft fruit flavours, with some straw and pine. Finish was dry cereal, bitter spruce and raisins.

Bottle from Vale Brewery. Pours amber yellow with a thin white head which fades quickly. Aroma is citrus, bitter hops, malt and resin. Taste is floral, and moderately bitter but not much sweetness. Moderate to gentle carbonation. Long, moderate dry bitter finish.

Cask by handpump at Henglerís Circus, Glasgow - clear yellow, thin white head, resinous, fruity, malty aroma, good lacing, weak citrus, hint of resin, bittersweet, moderate carbonation, not too bad

Pleasant, easy drinking beer, and yet relatively strong for a UK cask ale. Light Citrus flavour. Light golden appearance. Very light dry finish.

Cask@the avion, aldridge. Golden beer with medium head and decent lacing. Aroma is hoppy. Taste is citrus, bitterish hops and a touch of butter. Decent.

My Bottom Line:
This hoppy quencherís spicy hoppiness and citrus fruit allusions benefit from honeyed, straw-like cereals, segueing into a grassy bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the pale yellow.
-The flavour profile isnít refined enough for this to be a world-class Golden Ale, but itís still a valiant pint.
-This is akin to some pale Kellerbiers in flavour profile, body and drinkability.
-It gets better and better as you down the pint and temperature gets closer to room temp.
-Mouthfeel is bubbly, lean and quenching.
-Citrusy hops share starfruit angles.

Bottle.

Bottle at home. Hazy golden colour with a loose frothy white head. Aroma is elderflower honey and lemon. Biscuit malt, grainy, citrus flavours. Quite gassy. Some mineral.

Ascot Beer Festival 2012. Pours a golden colour with a thin white head, plenty of citrus fruit in the aroma, taste is sweet with hops and fruit, with a crisp dry finish.

Cask. Plain gold pour. Fairly typical grassy hop aroma. Fairly significant hop hit with a fairly smooth, clean finish. Pretty much a smooth bitter with a load of hops added to make it a pretty interesting beer thatís very drinkable as well.
