3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Sheep’s Heid Inn in Edinburgh. Really liked this one a lot, one of the best British ales I’ve tried. No head to speak of. Smells more bitter than it tastes if such a thing is possible, so brown sugar nutty sweetness comes as a pleasant surprise.

500ml bottle, golden ale. Unusual taste but very drinkable. Would be great for a warm summer’s evening.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
500ml bottle from Alesela. Pours clear golden amber, thin short-lived head. Sweet aromas, mostly honey, caramel. A very faint floral hop note. Something odd that isn’t quite metallic. Sharp though, perhaps acidic. Taste has more of this sharp bitterness. Didn’t enjoy it much.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
500ml bottle shared with mr_h. Amber brown, good foamy head. Resin grain malt aroma. Sickly sweet toffee malt flavour. Sour aftertaste. Not a good beer.

Bitter after taste with nice complex flavours. Well rounded and finished beer. A little too light possibly

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
50cl bottle. Pours a caramel colour with no head to speak of. The nose has honey and malt and then caramel on the end. More of the same on the taste. The palate is light to medium bodied and textured with a clean finish. A solid bitter.

2.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
[cask at the Stockbridge Tap, Edinburgh] Poured almost totally flat – which was a surprise. Slightly hazy deep golden ale, aromas of biscuit malt and musty, funky strangeness. A pretty decent malty bitter on the taste, even if it did smell like a football stadium toilets

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Burnished with a dimpled white foam. Aroma beeswax, orange jelly and dried apricot with a nose-twitching gust of CO2. Dry yeasty bite, apple peel, hints of dampness, jellied orange, sappy hop. Blunt hop finish with a clean malt linger- bread and nut husk. Decent yeasty drop, if eye-wateringly fizzy.
