COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Status uncertain. Also available bottle conditioned
Sjolmet Stout: The Sjolmet was a breed of Shetland cattle that had a strong dark body and light coloured head. The breed has died out, but the name lives on in the latest ale to be launched by Valhalla, a full bodied stout (with a strong dark body and light coloured head!) with an ABV of 5.0%.

500ml bottle from Alesela. Clear dark reddish brown with a minimal white head. Aromas of chocolate and light coffee notes. Taste has light bitterness, dark chocolate sweetness. Slightly thin texture, but just about creamy enough. Best I’ve had from here.

500ml bottle from The Good Spirits. Co. Almost black, reasonable head. Sour grassy malt aroma. Sweet treacle tar flavour. Sour grassy aftertaste. Not my sort of beer.

Bottle, from Tomlinsons, on the train from Inverness to Hereford 21/10/13. Dark chestnut brown with a good sized beige head. Nose is dark toffee fudge, vanilla, bready malts, cake mix. Taste comprises light roast, mineral notes, earthy, dark fruit tang. Medium bodie, fine carbonation, tangy fruit in the finish. Ok if a little strange for a stout, carries a hybrid profile in terms of an ESB/Stout cross.

Cask by handpump at Pot Still, Glasgow - clear dark reddish brown, good creamy beige head, roasted malty aroma with a bit of berries, nice film of lacing, malty red berry flavour, very sweet for a stout, fruity finish

Brown-black beer with a thin head and a very faint malt aroma. Malt and fruit flavour with a slight hop finish. Quite drinking

Taste at the Paisley Beer Festival. A dark colour. Quite cloudy. Not much head. Okay.

[500ml bottle, Appellation Wines, Edinburgh] Deep brown pour, with a small, thin white head. Aroma is roasted chocolate, toasted malt and some slightly musty coffee. There’s a bit more coffee on the flavour, but the beer is mostly that toasted, chocolately malt. Finish is pretty quick, but there’s nothing really wrong with this at all. Decent beer indeed [18022013]

50cl bottle. Pours opaque brown with a crema head. This is a straightforward well made stout which has the typical chocolate aroma and taste. It’s fairly one-dimensional but it certainly does that one dimension well. A light to medium body with a nice clean finish. The best from this brewery.

On tap @ Henrik. this is a clear dark brown one - some redness shining through and it has a lively little heavy lacing grey dense top. on the nose it’s not extreme. Some sweetness, nuts and not much more really. Mild and a bit blend. No sweetness at all - as the aroma lead me to believe. It’s near flat on the carbonation. A bit creamy almost in the thin texture. Strange chalky flavors. Dry and nutty-bitter with traces of tobacco smoke and soil. Thin dry and slightly papery finish with traces of cold old coffee. I can safely say that this was no favorite, but all in all it’s actually not that bad either. Just not completely mine thing 18.01.2013

On tap @ Henrik, Bergen. Pours an unexpected deep coppery brown body with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, licorice and hints of nuts and dark sugars. Taste is peaty nut tones, licorice and dark malts. Full body, medium carbonation. Ok ale, but...stout? Get outta here. :-P ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
