Bottle: The aroma consists of heavy orange, lighter orange peel, clove, and pepper. It pours a cloudy orangish-gold with a monstrous orange tinged off-white head that has ridiculous retention. There’s a good amount of sediment floating around the glass. A lot of soapy/clumpy lacing is left on the sides of the glass. It’s virtually impossible to pour even a little bit into a glass without creating a head that would fill more than three quarters of the space. The flavor starts with moderate orange that lingers throughout along with some lighter orange peel notes. The finish has lots of spice with moderate clove, cinnamon, and pepper that really linger on the tongue for quite some time. It’s medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, I initially feared an infection or severe over carbonation with the way it poured, but it didn’t appear that either was the case. While it states on the label that it’s a lager, it really comes across as a heavily spiced Wit beer that initially tastes decent but the spices begin to wear on me towards the end of the glass.

At first smell, my thought was a mild citrus kitchen/bathroom cleaning solution. I hoped that would only pertain to the smell and not the taste, but unfortunately it tasted as bad as it its scent suggested. This came from a mixed pack of Valkyrie beers, and I must say that the the brewery overall seems to still be a solid choice. The other beers I’ve tried from it were rich and quite enjoyable, so I’m hoping this was just a bad batch of Blaze Orange. I normally try to salvage bad beers by making pancakes with them (especially with fruit or pumpkin beers), but this one seemed beyond hope. It was definitely a painful moment to have to pour the rest of a beer down the drain.

This may be the worst beer I have ever had. I see some other higher rating and I am suspicious I might have just had a bad batch. I hope that is a case because I am a Wisconsin native who really enjoys most of Valkyrie’s brews, but the smell and taste of this beer is reticent of cleaning solution. Yes, what you scrub a urinal with. Valkyrie has some amazing beers, so please don’t shy away from this brewery because of this beer, but this particular beer (and hopefully just this particular batch?) was terrible.

Sample at brewery. Pours a bright orange. Aroma is citrus and a blend of spices. Initially very sweet taste but.hits hard with.cinnamon, pepper and many other spices. Very unique and interesting. I liked it but wouldnt want a full glass.
