12oz bottle- A black body with a nice head and an arma of chocolate. Taste initially of pepper folowwed by chocolate then pepper then the finish again was chocolate. I thought this was awesome but I also enjoy heat and other variations. of heat. Great beer.

02-Oct-06 (22 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with JK, thanks John!) The loud "pffft" when twisting off the cap and the rather voluminous heading on the pour had me thinking I had yet another sour, infected bottle of Viking brew on my hands, but happily, such is not the case. Unfortunately, after taking the first sip, I find the Cayenne Pepper addition to be too heavy-handed for my tastes. And that’s a shame, too, because the sweet, almost candy bar-like chocolate flavor moderately bitter roastiness is balanced and delicious. But the short-lived burning in my throat from the hot peppers is quite simply not a sensation I enjoy when I’m drinking a beer. Body is medium-full and the expansive carbonation I experience initially gradually subsides. Sweet chocolate and roasty, earthy malts dominate the nose, but the spicy aroma of hot peppers is strong enough to make for a bit of prickling in my nose. Color is dark brown but not opaque, and the mighty, tan head takes 10 to 15 minutes to finally settle down. I must admit, though, that after perhaps 4 or 5 ounces, I seem to have gotten used to the hot peppers and I’m able to focus on the more enjoyable aspects of this beer. And it’s every bit as tasty when it’s at room temperature too.

Pours a deep dark murky brown, with a smattering of tan foam. No lacing. Mild sweetish chocolate aroma. I took the first sip, and it was quite chocolaty, like a decent dark milk chocolate. I didn’t really notice much of a chile flavor, but there was a mild peppery bite in the finish. Second sip, the chocolate was more bitter, and the chile more full. Third and subsequent sips, the chocolate is definitely in the background now, with some heat from the chile taking over. The chile lingers in the aftertaste, while my internal temperature rises a couple degrees. Licking my lips, I get that sweet chocolate taste again - sans chile pepper. Mild carbonation and not quite medium body. The cayenne is even more prominent as the beer warms up. Interesting combination, but this one seems just a bit muddled. I would have liked the chocolate to be a little bolder to stand up to the cayenne. The hot pepper was pretty good. Kicking up the carbonation would have been interesting. All in all, the chocolate flavor is better by far than Sam Adams Chocolate Bock.

Dark brown color, small rown head.Dark malty aroma with plenty of chocolate. The taste was not exactly what i was expecting but better.Malty chocolatey flavor with a spicey peppery side that seemes to hang on the pallate for some time but not in an overly bad way.Nice combination and well worth getting a few 6er’s for a cold winter night.

12 oz bottle, via Styles. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, colored body under a very fizzy and short lived brown head. Aroma is chocolaty and roasty with a definate, quite strong, contribution the cocoa and cayenne. A light ashy smell as well. Flavor is just about as weird as you’d expect. Starts OK, with a nice chocolaty Porter taste and a cocoa overtone. Then comes the finish. Wow. Burnt malt and cayenne pepper that actually burns slightly the back of my throat. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation. Finishes a little cloying. What exactly were these guys thinking? I’m all for "pushing the envelope" and all, but this was just wrong. Only out of sheer lack of ambition to get off my couch and go to the sink did I finish this whole bottle.

Aroma carried hints of vanilla, roasted maltes, a hint of spice. Pours a dark brown. The taste is a little mocha, roasted malts, the spice is mild. You feel a warming sensation in the back of your throat. Not bad.

Bottle: I was actually really excited to try this one as I happen to love beers brewed with peppers, at least when they’re done well. Pours to a hazy brown body with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet & sour sauce, corn, chocolate, vanilla, very light pepper. The taste is sweet grains, mocha, chocolate, spicy pepper (though it’s really mild), and some light cinnamon. Somewhate creamy, though ultimately light and water body.

Pours a two finger dark brown head that fades instantly leaving no lace. Black color. Faint carbonation and heavy bodied. Chocolate nose. Roasted chocolate flavor, smooth with some bite but no noticeable cayenne pepper - broken down by the yeast?? $1.59 for a 12oz bottle from Blue Max Liquor Burnsville, Mn.

Bottle... Muddy brown ale with a small, fizzy, light brown head. The nose is of chocolate, vanilla, caramel and yes, a hint of cayenne pepper. The flavor is chocolatey and sweet, then dry and spicy at the last possible second. Medium-bodied and buttery with medium carbonation. Finishes chocolatey and almost hot (cayenne hot). Different, but very good. I’ll go against the grain here and say "I really like it!" Thanks to MilkmanDan for filling my glass with this brew!

Provided by MilkmanDan. Brown body, no head to speak of. The aroma is butterscotch(diacetyl?) , cream and chocolates. The flavor is thin, some chocolate, some sweetness. Thin, watery body with a slightly astringent finish.
