3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 stuckinprague (43) - - SEP 4, 2012
Smells of oatmeal and coffee. Tastes like coffee and chocolate. The beer has a nice amount of bitterness and some burnt flavors which complement each other nicely. Light body with a creamy texture. Beer is black with a brown head which dissipates quickly. Almost stout like. A thicker head, and a more powerful flavourful would take this beer to the next level. Good beer, good times.

Awesome bold scents of chocolate and coffee, taste falls a little flat, smooth light chocolate flavor.

12 oz bottle. This was a mini gusher but no beer lost. Pours nearly black (looks black in the glass though) with a very thick fluffy tan head. The aroma is a combination of oats, coffee, and chocolate. Offers no suprises but smells nice. Toasty malty flavor with a bit of chocolate roast and coffee. The palate is creamy, but thin, as if it’s watered down a little. Light bitterness mingles in amongst the roasty flavors. The finish leaves me wanting just a little more. Overall not bad but it’s going to be very forgettable.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 mnjeff (5) - Rochester, Minnesota, USA - NOV 22, 2009 does not count
Poured from bottle to a cabernet glass (why not)
A: This is a Very dark porter that retains lacing around it’s edges well. Light penetrates the sides of the glass. The head does not grow to even 1 finger, just barely lingers.
S: Roasted malts, mild coffee, black licorice
T: No dominant hop component, no dominant malt component. Produces a roasty, malt aftertaste. I would describe the flavors as muted rather than balanced.
M: Very thin, watery
D: This is a drinkable brew, though I expect more "in yo face!" from any kind of coffee or oatmeal porter.

This small brewery can’t produce a decent light beer, but they kill it with their stouts and porters. This is a pure black, sweet smelling porter that’s a great mix of coffee, oatmeal, and milk. It’s not very thick, but then again its a porter. Would definitely purchase again.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 madvike (2077) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 2, 2009
Bottle - Black pour with a dark brown head that goes away quickly. Smells sour and milky, with a bit of smoke and chocolate. Taste is sweet, milky, and chocolately. Finishes with some ho-hum almost instant-tasting coffee and bitter roast. The bitterness feels a bit off. Body is just about right--not too thick, not too carbonated, and smooth. Pretty much like most Viking beers I’ve had. I feel like they’re just a step behind the big boys, whether in ingredients or balance.
