COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Central Valley California "Lambic" Obviously we can’t make an actual Lambic, but this beer is inspired by the famous Belgian region of spontaneous fermentation. Fresh pomegranate juice was blended into our spontaneously fermented Luna Blanca and then other barrels of lab cultured barrel aged sours were blended to achieve this final product. Blended as a tribute to memorialize and celebrate the life of Bay Area beer writer and friend Bill Brand. This beer will be released during San Francisco Beer Week 2010 and then continue to make special appearances around the state.

Sampled on numerous occasions during SF Beer Week 2010, never heard of it before. Pours a hazy, light yellow color with a small, white head. Aroma is near fantastic! Tart, fruity, peaches. Flavour backs up the aroma, a quite sharp acidity, citrus, dry. Fills the whole mouth with great tastes. Reminds me of Cantillon in a way. A great beer that I’m glad I got to try a hundful of times!

Sampled on 2/9/2010 and other dates. This sour ale pours a orange gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, grapefruity and tart. A medium to full bodied sour. The malts are fruity and sweet. Grapefruity and tart. Lots of grapefruity and citrusy tartness. Did I mention it’s a really tart beer? With all that tartness there is still quite a bit of residual sugar left to help balance the tartness out. Nice lambic, and it’s still an infant. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is tart.

16 ounce sample on tap at the Davis Graduate. Aroma is acetic, tart, with some floral and citrus notes present, too. Very aromatic and rather quaffable. Transparent orange body with a large, fizzy, off-white head. Starts tart with some acetic qualities before it turns bready, doughy, chewy, and cereal-like in the middle. Finishes with some moderately astringent tartness. Very nice. This is very balanced, and very drinkable. Not an over-the-top sour...my preference.

On tap at PP Belgian fest. Golden amber hues and a thin head. Medium bodied. Very bold sourness in this baby but the flavors are complex and insane. Pomegranate, cherry, earthy funk, oak are all in there. Super long finish. One of my favorites at the Fest for sure.

On tap at Woodshop 5.0 (2/20/10): Pours a slightly hazy pale golden with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Has a tart lemon citrus and grassy hay funky nose with a hint of buttery oak. Starts with a subtle light malty sweetness with some puckering tart notes and oaky bitterness before a very sour slightly warming finish. Perhaps a bit too sour, but still a good attempt at the style.

A: The pour is a hazy light golden orange color with perhaps a thin bit of white foam on top. S: The nose is quite wonderful with a nice funky aroma and an intense citrus acidity to it. There seems to be a slight note of vinegar, but I could be mistaken. T: The funk is not all that pronounced on the palate, but there is a very sharp acidity and a nice citrus and tart fruit component and a mild dryness. M: The body is medium and is slick on the tongue due to a lack of carbonation. D: A very nice beer that I was pleased to get the chance to try. One of the few beers I’ve had from Valley, but they’ve always been able to please.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Tart, acetic aroma. Acetic flavor with nice fruit balance. Medium bodied. Acetic/sourness lingers with light fruitiness. Nice sour. Great balance.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2010 Bottle from Steve in Stockton! Appearance: Pours a cloudy auburn with no head. Aroma: Soury sweet funk, lots of cherry notes. Taste: Tart cherries, funky yeast, lemon and lingering grain note in the background. Mouthfeel: Chewy with modest carbonation. Overall: One of the best sours I have had to date. I like a bold twangy sour, but I also need it to be drinkable and refreshing. This met my criteria.
