CaptainCougar (4599), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 18, 2007 Sampled at the second annual Bistro’s West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest: Pours a transparent orange copper with a nicely-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel and biscuity Belgian malt with some light oaky complexity. Body starts rich and caramely sweet with some complex honey and sticky brown sugar notes. Finishes drier and mildly warming with nice honey and caramel sweetness. Very enjoyable. hopscotch (4379), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jun 5, 2008 Updated: Jun 6, 2008Bottle… SMAACMSM O-Town Throwdown, Part Sept…This beer rocks!... Clear, caramel-colored ale with a small, creamy, white head. The aroma is an intoxicating whirlpool of buttery caramel, brandy, whiskey, wood and golden raisins. Full-bodied and syrupy with restrained carbonation. Lots of caramel malt and residual sugar with lesser degrees of alcohol and dark fruit. It’s warm, but not 13% warm. The cask aging has rounded off any rough edges. Malt bomb. Boozy, bittersweet finish. Big props to SoLan for acquiring this world class masterpiece and sharing it with the crew! beerguy101 (3419), Newark, California, USA Nov 19, 2007 Tasted on tap at the 2007 Bistro West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Festival. This Belgian quad pours a medium amber color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is bourbon, malts, touch of cherries, and some oak. Medium to full-bodied quad. The malts are fruity and caramel. Some tartness form cherries and pomegranates (?) balance the bourbon barrel flavors. Nice sweetness and fruitiness with the bourbon barrel flavors. I can still taste the Decadence 12 in this beer, but it has metamorphed into this incredible beer. NICE. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Ughsmash (2814), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 13, 2008 Many thanks to Steve for the bomber! Poured brilliant, clear copper with just a ring of beige.. loved the color, though. The aroma picked up deep, rich brandy paired with aged caramel, plums, and toffee.. deep and seductive with a warming sensation.. great use of the barrel here. The flavor was brandy-fueled (and a very fine one at that!) with vinous notes and vanilla playing well in there.. drawn caramel, aged toffee, and more vinous notes on the back.. very memorable finish. Heavier-bodied with just enough carbonation on the palate (definitely more that another bottle or two that I heard of).. alcohol was never rough, but this warmed the belly nicely. Great brew!
