Rating from notes, on tap at SF Beer Week 2010 Opening Gala. Pours dark, dark brown, tiny brown head. Aroma of brown sugar, barrel, burnt oak barrel, chocolate, vanilla. Full bodied, quite sweet, lots of flavor, alcohol heat, chili pepper, burnt wood in the finish. A truly great blend!

A: The pour certainly lives up to the name of the beer. Dark as night with a thin brown head. S: A (dare I say?) decadent mix of sweet goodness fills the nose; chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, and vanilla all make for one hell of an aroma. Bourbon, oak, and a touch of alcohol round things out. T: Though conceivably quite difficult, the flavor might just be a touch better than the nose. Rich chocolate and caramel works magic with the roasted malt, vanilla, bourbon, and oak notes. Just about perfect. M: The body is full and creamy, almost chewy. The carbonation is minimal. D: This was one of the best beers of the day. I’m pleased to have been able to try this one and hope for an opportunity to do so again.

Sampled at Stone’s first Oakquinox in April 2010. Pours black with a thin brown head. Aroma is booze, wood, dark malts, and vanilla. Flavor also boozy with dark malts and a little chocolate. Surprisingly light mouthfeel with a boozy finish with some lingering roasty bitterness. (24, 297)

Deep mocha black with a beige head that did not last long. Great dried prune on the aroma. Great full flavor of mocha, roasted bourbon and raisin. Mouthfeel is full and chewy.

Draught @ Toronado...Pours thick and dk dk brown with amedium tan head...aroma is full of cocoa malt and roast, vanilla and some cherry?...flavour is similar, never deviated from a very fruity Imperial Stout, coffee, cocoa, dk pit fruits, creamy malt and burnt woody bitterness...carob and molassas add sweetness to the thick bitter body...pretty delicious...
