3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JCB (3862) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - FEB 20, 2013
Bomber from 2010 - thanks, family! Had high hopes for this one, but the best I can say is that I let it age too long. Clearish apple juice pour, minimal bubbles and a watery consistency. Strong sweet malts and spicy yeast in the nose. Taste was considerably more fruity than expected (apple juice for sure here), and with the washed-out quality it came across as a merely decent BSA.

Bottle shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul!
The beer is golden hued with a small white head that leaves faint traces of lacing on the glass.
The aroma brings herbal and floral notes, with additional scents of alcohol and a subtle yeast character.
This beer is overly sweet, with alcohol too prominent. The body is thin, and overall, this was pretty tough to drink. It wasn’t horrible, but I didn’t particularly enjoy it either. Nothing about this brew really embraced the Belgian style to me. Yeast character was subdued, and the alcoholic sweetness was just overpowering.

5th July 2010 Hazy gold beer. No head. Smooth palate but with a carbonated bite in the tail. Honey like light malt with a trace of orange fruits. Pinch of pepper. Finishes silky smooth. Nice easy drinking Belgian.

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, hops, and fruits mainly grapefruits, leading to a lightly bitter finish.

Bottle courtesy of Lunch. Served in a SAVOR snifter.
Pours a clear golden yellow color with a small white head that doesn’t really leave any lace or anything like that behind. The nose brings some light bready character along with some really faint yeast character -- there’s a very light bit of earthiness and some pepper, but those were very difficult to pick out. The flavor was the same way. I got a bit of bread and grain, but no real yeast character. Some continental hops. Light body and fairly crisp. Dry finish. Nothing really Belgian about this beer.

Bottle. [can’t remember who traded me this... sorry]
Pours clear golden with a small, creamy, white film head. Aroma has flowers, light oxidation, banana, green apples, light vinious. Medium, prickly carbonation, fine creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit sharp vinious, banana esters, green apple, a bit og gingery pepper. The alcohol might be a bit to present, otherwise an okay Belgian blonde.

Cloudy pale hazy pour. Thick white head. The nose is a little bit bretty almost. Softly fruity with a kiss of pine as well. There is an unusual sort of tartness on the back - odd in a beer this size, but it kind of works. Softly berryish with a touch of malty sweetness. Berries, sweet malt and a little bit of unusual dustiness. It’s pretty tasty, really.

22oz bottle from K&L. Pours a cloudy deep golden color with a one-finger white head. The aroma is very sweet with pale malt and honey as well as a light fruit presence. The flavor has very sweet honeyish pale malt, peach, citrus, and spice. Fairly syrupy on the palate with medium carbonation. Pretty nice beer but not terribly well-balanced and cohesive.

Crisp clear orange-hued golden coloured body with a bright glow and an odd oily-sediment topped (instead of any head at all) beer. Aroma of granny smith apples, candy sugar, yeast, coriander seed and a touch of apricots and oak. Full-bodied; Strong full flavoured beer with honeysuckle, apricots, peaches, yeast, oak, vanilla and a lot of sugar at the tail end. Aftertaste shows a touch of sweetness, a little drying flavour and a whole lot of sugar and fruits near the end. Overall, a good belgie, perhaps a bit too reliant on fruit and sugars without much other complexities. Nice to sample, but not one of my favourite belgian aless, but definitely not a bad attempt. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from City Beer in San Francisco, California on 29-June-2010 for US$7, sampled at home in Washington on 19-September-2010.
