Drove out the way to get to this brewery, which was worth it, really nice people and good food and good brew. Pours orange with an off white ring. Nose is light and gingery. Taste is sweet with a honey ginger taste. Very nice. DYCSoccer17 (1945), Davis, California, USA Jan 27, 2008 16 ounce sample at the brewpub. I was told that this beer is a "Ginger IPA" by one of the barmaids. Very citrus, orangey, floral hop aroma with a little sweet, sugary, maltiness as well. I don’t pick up much ginger at all, and probably wouldn’t detect it if I didn’t know any better. (In retrospect, this makes a great deal of sense). This is still quite quaffable. Slightly hazy orange-copper body with a medium off-white head and OK lacing. Fruity, orange, citrus burst of flavors to start. This is followed by some herbal flavors and some floral hints as well. Very mild spiced ginger comes through very very late along with a dry mouthfeel. This has a very nice balance between malt, hop, and spices. It is very drinkable. My one complaint is that the more I have, the more I detect a late, almost medicinal flavor. Davecooks (1081), Bay Area, California, USA Jan 16, 2008 Murky, copper color. A very spicy aroma; ginger, coriander, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and eight million other aromas. Nice malt presence with all that spice and a bag of chips. Somewhat hoppy. beerguy101 (3255), Newark, California, USA Dec 29, 2007 Tasted in brewpub 2007 version. This bock pours a medium amber color from the tap. Aroma is malty and sweet with a bunch of spices and herbs. There is also a touch of honey. A medium to full bodied bock. The malts are caramel and sweet, The hops are grapefruity and a touch floral. This is a very aggressively hopped bock. The spices and hops mix really well with the malts. There is a lot going on in this one, the complexity is very high, but it’s a very easy drinking beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. stoutlover72 (1235), NorCal, California, USA Dec 24, 2007 NorCal December 07 - Steve breaks out this beauty which is made for the Winter season and it’s really tasty. There’s nothing small about this beer. Huge notes of hops (grassy, piney and a touch catty) in the nose and a nice malt bill keeps everything in check. Flavors are spicy, a touch of coriander and ginger, juicy hops and a nice fruity sweetness that hides the alcohol content. Good drinking.
