Old Ale is a beer style classifies under the Strong Ale category. The beer style is similar to a Barleywine but with slightly lower alcohol strength and lower hop bitterness. The beer is full of “malty” toffee, caramel and treacle flavors with a low carbonation level and is often aged for years in wooden barrels. Approx. 8.0% ABV

Bomber thanks to KrausenJockey!! Poured very deep brown with a thick, well-retained, creamy cap of tan head. The aroma was all about the toasty darker malts with brown sugar, caramel, chocolate, and molasses present.. light herbal accents.. great balance. The flavor found baker’s chocolate, molasses, and brown sugar at the core with vanilla, graham, and peaty sweetness snaking outward.. bitterness was mild and herbal again.. finished dry and warm. Medium-plus bodied with rolling carbonation on the palate.. drier, spicy, and oaky on the back and through the finish.. lightly sour, which helped rather than hurt. Very good stuff!

Bottle sampled at Noog Four-0 5/31/08 courtesy of beerguy101: Pours a hazy copper mahogany with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, ginger, honey and cinnamon with a touch of doughy yeast. Body starts with decent fullness and fresh piny resiny hops with good semi-sweet caramel and spice balance before a drier bittersweet finish. An interesting and enjoyable old ale.

btl opened by Beerguy101. Lite brown pour with light haze. Light roasted malt aroma and brown sugar. Light bitter, roasted malt and brown sugar flavor as well. Slightly fizzed on a medium body. Very solid no flaws to call out just solid.

Pours a muddy brown color with a small brown head. Sweet aroma. Tastes of raisins, toffee, and brandy with a slightly bitter finish. It was served a little too cold for my liking. It might have been better warmer, but still a nice brew.

Tasted at the May Northern California Beer Tasting. This old ale pours a deep brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is brown sugar, caramel, molasses and some tobacco. A medium bodied old ale. The malts are caramel, dark fruits and sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. Very deceptive at 8%. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
