Überhoppy Imperial IPA: Hops, hops glorious hops! There is no mistaking what this beer is; soft and delicate it is not. Überhoppy is meant to completely overwhelm you with resinous, floral, citrus and herbal hops barely balanced by a huge amount of malt that keeps the Lupulin onslaught from resulting in complete palate destruction. If you do not like hops, Überhoppy is NOT the beer for you, do us all a favor and either give this beer to someone with the intestinal fortitude to appreciate it or put it down and walk away. Überhoppy is brewed with 10 different hop varieties and a complete and utter disregard for common logic or sanity. Please consume this beer as soon as possible to ensure maximum hop freshness. Approximately 9.5% ABV.

Draft. A dark golden amber with a one finger white head leaving heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel, citrus hops, and pineapple. Initial taste is malty caramel sweetness, followed by citrus hops. Finish is pineapple. A little on the sweet side. Medium-full body. Medium carbonation.

(Rating #3002)

10/1/10. Thanks, JohnnyJ! Cloudy orange pour with not much off-white head. Sweet caramelly aroma with undertones of deep earthy hops with pine, resin, and pot. Sweet, sugary aroma with a dash of sour and citrus, and extremely bitter - whoa buddy!

It’s amazing that such a beautiful label would pour out a diarrhea colored beer with absolutely NO HEAD. Really, talk about getting a guy all worked up?? Anyways, this beer has is really sweet and has a huge sweet malt backbone that actually overwhelmed the hops. I would like to revisit this beer on tap at the brewery, because the wonderful grapefruit and pine hops never stood a chance. However, it might be a different story fresh off the tap......

Liquid Sweetness! This double IPA was a tad on the sweet side. It had the bouquet of Port’s HOP-15, but but not the crisp hoppy flavor. A little on the sweet side for my liking. Not bad, but not the best DIPA

Draft at the brewpub. Clear golden amber pour, sticky off-white head. Piney hops, citrus, slightly floral, caramel malt, and some sweet fruit. Nice IIPA, but not as good as I was hoping.

Bottle thanks to Wavers1. Dark brown pour with white head. Nose and taste of caramel malts, pine and hops. The caramel malt is starting to get a bit strong, but still quite hoppy.

As my memory isn’t the best, here’s another rating thanking either Plaleslu or xmarcnolanx for sharing this winner at an STL tasting. Pours amber with a light white head. The aroma has lots of dank hops along with green onion, caramel and apple. Medium / thick body that’s rich and a bit cloying with subtle carbonation. The flavor begins with lots of caramel, alcohol and dank funky hops. The finish is quite hot along with spicy hops and funk. This is quite nice, but would be more down my alley if the alcohol was taken back a couple notches.

Bottle from wavers1. Pours brown caramel, white head. Sugary candy, chocolate and caramel with citrus. Mild/moderate bitter, chocolate, caramel, dry and sugary. Not bad.

Sample at the brewpub on 8/7/10. Clear amber/copper pour with a thick off-white head. Aroma is hop ridiculous, but still a little muted as if it were oaked or something. Still, lots of pine and orange coming through and that’s a good thing. Flavor is big and hoppy with orange and pine, but the finish is dank and, like the aroma, almost kind of oaky. Still a solid brew though, and glad I got to try it.
