ogglethorp (750), Ohio, USA Apr 25, 2008 Shared by Dawn at the Cleveland tasting, huge thanks! Pours a copper color with a pillowy white head. Aroma is fresh floral hops, citrus, pine. Flavor is grapefruit, orange, mango, pineapple, pine. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation finished bitter and refreshing. This is one delicious brew!
AgentSteve (606), Livermore, California, USA May 30, 2008 Brewmaster Steve tapped a keg at the brewery so I could try this, and was I impressed! I know it was about 4 months old, but it was outstanding. The pour was darker than any IIPA I had ever seen, like toasted wood with a thin cream colored head. The nose was very pine, floral and grass hoppy, but a sweet caramel maltiness was strongly present. The flavor was just as the nose. Extremely well balanced. Smooth on the palate and dangerously drinkable. I’m glad I finally got to try it, I just wish I didn’t have to drive home after! footbalm (1205), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle shared from Eben. Thanks for sharing this amazing brew. This was like
someone had taken honey from bees used to cross pollenate a Golden Kiwi orchard and extracted to honey from it and used it to make an ass kicking IIPA. I an at a loss on this one. It was sooo de-lish. rating to style. I am not sure what I rated Dreadnaught but this is my Fav IIPA. Truly amazing. hellomynameis (740), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 27, 2008 Amber coloured with a decent sized off white head that dissipates into just a coating. The aroma is awesome, lots of fresh hops with lots of different aromas, especially considering this is a "west coast" IPA. Excuse me, DIPA...As Stine says, dank weed scents are present...a bit strange I think, but all things considered it’s not a bad thing. Other than that, the hops are a bit floral with a few hints of resin. The palate is awesome, it’s commanding in the mouth but it’s not too thick and isn’t syrupy. The flavour is fantastic, very well balanced with loads of malt, sweet wonderful malt. There is a feeling of the hops loaded into this beer, but they present themselves in a very interesting way. They are there, but not overly bitter. Some resin, a bit of grapefruit, and a tad bit of bitter. Really well made, lots of great flavours. Worthy of its spot.
Stine (1275), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA May 24, 2008 Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Hazy amber orange, foam fading to a lazy, lingering beige film. Glowing tropical fruit and dank weed aroma. Strong pale malts. Caramel, sugar cookie, brown sugar dough. Pears. RIchly balanced hop and malt flavors; some floral bitterness dry in front, with a warm earthy pungency of yerba tea and citrus rinds seeming quite thick and syrupy beneath. Really fresh, vibrant and consistently soft. Never a sharp or astingent moment, and an amazingly restrained alcohol presence. Citrus character is recurrent throughout, but lends little dryness, rather seeming thoroughly acidic, quenching, and summery; glowing in the sharp juiciness of tropical pineapple and mandarin orange, moreso than the bitter acidity of grapefruit or the silky texture of mango. Soft, full body showing lots of sticky resinous hops and no residual sugar. Long, bittersweet yerba tea and honey finish; a beautifully rendered, hop forward yet delicately balanced and thoughtful example, right there with the very best. Thanks Dave! sunevdj (1346), Copenhagen, Denmark May 17, 2008 On tap at the brewery (one-year-old). Pours a hazy brown with almost no head. Light sweetness with lots of bitterness. Lots of hops - flowers, grape fruits and pine. But also a malty backbone that, that I guess is a bit more noticeable in this one-year-old... Not a bad thing at all. Medium to full bodied. Medium carbonation. Long dry finish with a hint of alcohol.
