richlikebeer (747), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 17, 2005 saved this for last as part of the brewpub sampler. smelled great, vanilla and chocolate blending together, almost gave an aroma like white chocolate. body was deep brown but not totally opaque with amber highlights and an almost nitro-esque layer of head. flavor started out with burnt coffee and gave way through chocolates ending with the sweetness of the vanilla. the aftertaste was what lost it for me though, as a seemingly watered down body had an odd soapy aftertaste. the residual taste in my mouth returned to the vanilla, but to get there, the odd sourness was dominant. it was unfortunate the end didnt live up to the rest, or this would have been outstanding. hopdog (4525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 17, 2004 On tap @ Valley Forge Brew Pub. Poured a dark black color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of vanilla (duh), roasted malts, and chocolates. Light coffee/bitter finish. Vanilla was stronger in the aromas than the taste. There was something about the body I didn’t care for (a little watery?). egajdzis (2947), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 13, 2004 Poured a hazy brown (rootbeerish) color with a thin off white head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of light roast, vanilla extract, and caramel chocolates. Taste seemed rather watery, lightly roasted and smokey with some chocolate as well. the vanilla was very subdued in the taste. DocLock (4083), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 29, 2004 Lovely vanilla/roasty odor, with a deep ebony color. Goes down real smooth, and the vanilla flavor is not phony-tasting at all. Slightly creamy, leaving layers of lace on the glass. My wife even liked this one. A marvelous porter. obxdude10 (1387), Reading, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 27, 2004 Updated: Apr 2, 2004Excellent flavored porter, black in color, beautiful tan head with great lacing & retention, vanilla all over the place, it was in the nose, the flavors & the finish, nicely balanced, some hint of flowerly hoppiness, just subtle enough to balance the beer very nicely, very drinkable, very smooth, awesome porter
