COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed since the beginning of last century, when the near-complete staff of the brewery went to see the circus of Buffalo Bill, leaving the boiling brewing kettle to the care of the youngest employee. This boy let the beer roast and caramelise on the bottom of the kettle, but after trying, everybody actually liked the "spoiled" beer, which became the brewery’s staple diet. This Belgian version is a lot weaker than the stout exported to the USA.

From a 0,33 cl bottle. Colour is dark brown with a creamy head. Taste is sweet, caramel, dark fruit. Nice easy to drink beer. Misses a bit excitement.

Aroma of dark malt, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits, hint of coffee, raisins. Flavour is sweet with a candy sweet finish. Okay, but too sweet for my taste.

Alengrin (2742) - BELGIUM - JAN 13, 2015
Classic sweet stout with a long history, named after Buffalo Bill when he came to town in Sint-Lievens-Esse more than a century ago. Nowadays effectively labelled ’stout’ but till recently, this was a kind of Flemish sweet stout, an old-fashioned style nobody drinks anymore, in disguise. Bronze beer with medium, light beige head; caramelly maltiness, candi syrup sweetness, some fruity esters, biscuit, light and thin body, smooth, lightly bitterish finish; a bit straightforward but this is perfectly acceptable for this particular style; simple, but tasty and ’honest’. A flashback into Belgian brewing history, like many old regional beers from old family brewers that are still kept alive.

Bottle from Kiya. Nose is choclate, umami, light roast, yeasty fruitiness, Belgian spice. Dark brown with orange, high, fine head. Sweet and roasty, good balance, dark chocoalte, light spice. Rqther light body, but wellbalanced. Stronger one is better for suree, but still decent.

the aroma is caramel with hints of fruits and brown sugar... the taste is caramel with shades of dark fruits, licorice, toffee and passionfruit... sweet, a little bit fruity and dry aftertaste...

Sample at Örebro Öl & Whisky 2014. Malty smell with some caramel. Similar taste. Deep malty beer. Was marketed as a stout but I would think its more of a bruin. Nice beer though.

Bottle 33cl. Color is deep amber brown, small frothy light tan head, recedes after a while but a thick layer remains, good lacing; aroma sweet malts, caramel, brown sugar, fruity (cherry, berries), roasty notes, soap; taste is medium sweetbitter and on the whole quite light; medium body, light oily texture, carbonation average, mild sweet fruity finish; overall is this a rather shy beer, especially taste and aftertaste are on the flat side and the soap in the aroma is a drawback.
