25cl bottle, called "Buffalo 1907" (6.5%). Well-built, high-rising foam cap, clear amber body; later pours display some sediment. Some musty cardboard aromas on the nose. Light mouthfeel gives way to a surprising fruitiness and sugary rush; additional sips reveal a pleasant light sourness. Would have to try another bottle, but if this light acidity is spoilage, I’d recommend infecting every single batch. It’s lovely. At least in this example, more "Oud Bruin" than "Belgian Ale."

Bottle from Beer Mania. Dark brown cola body with thin head. Nose of subdued malts and caramel. Taste is sweet, strong and fruity. Quite roasty, especially in the finish. It is pretty thin and too roasty in the finish.

Dark brown pour with a rocky ecru head. Tangy, lightly acidic aroma; swimming pool and dark fruit jam. Flavor is rather thin - caramel, light leather, light dates. Not great.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear darkbrown to ruby beer, a fine white to beige head. A very sweet and fruity smell. Hint of caramel and coffee. A pleasant mouthfeeling, just enough carbon to counter the sweetness. Tastes a little sweet, brown sugar, that changes to sour with hints of chocolate, coffee and cherries. A sweetsour aftertaste, again with a note of cherries in it. There’s a sweetness to it, but it’s not a sweet beer. Very well balanced.

First up, a lower alcohol version of Buffalo from Brouwerij Van Den Bossche.
It pours pitch black with a dense and creamy tan head.
Smells of fruity dark malt, sweet and with a hint of some metallic aromas.
Sweet in the mouth with just a hint of roastiness. Lovely balance that I wasn’t expecting. Mocha and hint of dark chocolate. Underpinnings of ripe dark fruit. Medium-bodied with a sweet finish and a uncharacteristically clean finish.
Very flavorful but smooth and drinkable. A good start!

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours cola color with a low off-white head. Aroma of dark roasted caramel. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Flavor is a bit overroasted caramel. Heading for porter almost. Flavor seems a bit citric. It’s not sweet to me. Finishes rather dark, but not extremely dry. Leaves dark roasted malt taste behind.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
At Zythos Beer Festival 2010. Bright maroon color, large amount of lacing. Aroma of burnt espresso. Taste starts sweet, the progresses to Starbucks and bitter cocoa. Nice enough.
