3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from the bierschuur in Poppel. The beer is very dark brown to black colored and has a stable cream colored head, with average carbonation.
The aroma is sweetness of caramel, dark fruits and roasted malts, and some light hint of coffee and cacao.
The taste is medium to full bodied, with medium sweetness and in the end a bitterness of dark chocolate, cacao and some espresso.
The finish is light dry and light bitter, with warming alcohol.
When tasting I would say this is a strong ale, but definitely not a stout.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Donkerbruin van kleur. Beetje zurig aroma, smaak is licht caramel en ook zurig, doet me helemaal niet aan een stout denken. Dunne waterige smaak.Als ik andere ratings lees snap ik dit niet helemaal.....

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Maker: Van den Bossche, St. Lievens-Esse/Herzele, Belgium ***
Beer: Buffalo Belgian Stout (bottled, bottle-conditioned, 330ml) ***
Style: Imperial Stout ***
ALC.VOL.: 9.0% ***
Colour: Dark mahogany, minimally hazy. Big, frothy beige head. ***
Nose: Blackberries, alcohol, vinegar. ***
Texture: Medium body, oily. Modest carbonation. ***
Taste: Licorice, sweet dark berries, some alcohol, yeast, spices at the start. Moderately sweet, but with sip after sip it gets drier. Middle is dry, with lemons, red berries, yeast, licorice still. Finish turns sweetish again, with the licorice over yeast and lemon. Mild, malty, wee alcoholic after taste. ***
Impressions: Interesting, unusual take on an imperial stout. Not cloyingly sweet despite 9% ABV, rather an interesting mix of sweet and sour flavours, with a hint of vinegar throughout. Who but the Belgians could make such a beer?

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
33cl bottle, served in tulip. Dark brown colour with a big off-white head. It smells and tastes so weird: roasted malts with a touch of Champagne or Catalan Cava, effect probably caused by the yeast combination. Nothing remarkable on the palate: moderately sweet with no bitterness, very light body for an IS, and carbonation is just ok. Drinkable, but quite boring.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Dark brown, small head. Aroma of caramel, sugar with very light roastiness. In taste similar. It’s not a stout, just some medicore dark belgian ale.
