4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 tderoeck (3000) - Gent, BELGIUM - JUL 7, 2010
Pours a clear darkbrown to ruby beer, a fine white to beige head. A very sweet and fruity smell. Hint of caramel and coffee. A pleasant mouthfeeling, just enough carbon to counter the sweetness. Tastes a little sweet, brown sugar, that changes to sour with hints of chocolate, coffee and cherries. A sweetsour aftertaste, again with a note of cherries in it. There’s a sweetness to it, but it’s not a sweet beer. Very well balanced.

First up, a lower alcohol version of Buffalo from Brouwerij Van Den Bossche.
It pours pitch black with a dense and creamy tan head.
Smells of fruity dark malt, sweet and with a hint of some metallic aromas.
Sweet in the mouth with just a hint of roastiness. Lovely balance that I wasn’t expecting. Mocha and hint of dark chocolate. Underpinnings of ripe dark fruit. Medium-bodied with a sweet finish and a uncharacteristically clean finish.
Very flavorful but smooth and drinkable. A good start!

beer with great commercial potential, for instance against Leffe dubbel.
This dark colored beer, has little nose but is very full bodied with roasted malts and soft tannine-style bitters in the aftertaste.
It's sweetesh aroma is inviting not overpowering.

Bottled. A stoutish aroma with some milkiness like a sweet stout. The beer is very dark, almost black and has a good off-white head. A bit of a herbal taste with more clean, sweet stout notes. Very tasty and drinkable.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a fast-dying tan head. Bunches of bubbles rise from the bottom and sides, but are tough to see wih the opacity. Aroma of fresh malt, hops, sugar, yeast and a good amount of chocolate. Medium-bodied; Very effervescent; Strong assertive roasted malt with a candy-like sweetness following soon afterwards. Aftertaste shows more sweetness, chocolate, light pit fruits, yeast and a bit of malt coming forward. Overall, a pretty good and very sweet beer for the style. I was impressed with this one and I was glad I bought it! I sampled this 25 cL bottle purchased from Beer Mania in Bruxelles, Belgium on 17-November-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 04-February-2009.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2007 Bottle form Uto. This beer has a smart appearance, sort of regal. Not exactly what you expect from a bottle with Buffalo Bill on the label. Burnt mohogany in colour with a creamy mocha head. Spotty lacing. Nose of roasted malts, toffee, caramel, maple syrup, banana and coffee with a hint of berries. Taste to match with the addition of brown sugar. Sweet and spicy. Not too much, not too little.
