Black Saison

Ganz ok.

On tap at the brewpub. The beer has got a deep dark brown colour with an airy head and medium body. Aroma of malt, hops and bread. Taste of malt, dark bread, hops, light acid, straw and dust. Nothing special.

Draft sample @ Van Moll fest 2015, Eindhoven.

weinig geur (gebrande mout. Smaak zoetig, mout, gebrand overheerst niet. Frisse nasmaak.

Sampled draft @ Van Moll Fest 2015. Murky dark brown with no head. Nose is odd herbs, lavender, spices, very odd herbs, thyme, rosemary,… Body & taste is a bit watery, herbal, huge spices akin to rosemary, some thyme, sugar, oregano, spices, weird herbal,… Doesn’t entirely work but interesting.

On tap @ van Moll. 5cl sample. Aroma has earthy yeast, some pepper, bit roast, some citric tones. Hazy, bit murky brown coloured beer with a thin, off-white head. The taste is slightly bitter, has earthy and roasty tones mainly. Dry mouthfeel. Okay, The pepper is nice and balanced out.

Tap @ van Moll, small sample. Slight hazy dark color, short frothy head. Aroma of peppery yeast, bit roast, some coffee, lots of licorice. Bit spicy and dry in taste, slight roasty bitterness. Nice black saison.

Douberd (4302) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - MAY 29, 2014
Tap at the brewpub, 250 ml into a shaker. Chestnut brown in colour, murky, thin tan head, a bit more than one finger in size, with average retention, minimal lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, some sour notes, lightly roasted malts. More sour notes on the taste, less chocolate but still there on the finish mostly, some dark fruits. Medium thin body, good carbonation, mildly dry palate. Okay beer, the sour notes kind of ruined it for me, maybe the weakest one on this visit.
