Black color, big head. Very nice aroma of roasted malt. Elegant roasted malt flavor, creamy; very dry mouthfeel; but there is also an evident liquorice touch that is out of place. Weak final. Interesting interpretation of the style.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2005 Dark chestnut brown colour. Aroma is somewhat light, but with hints of breadcrust and a touch of molasses. The flavour has some hints of darker Munich malts, a little bit of earthiness. Body is somewhat watery, especially for the style. Sweet, slightly toffeeish finish. I would like to see more body and a more complex dark malt character - it’s just not as rich and assertive as a good dunkel should be.

on tap @ Pacific Shore-pours a retaining creamy tan head and dark brown color with red tint. Aroma is dark malt, hint of dark fruit. Taste is dark malt-chocolate, secondary light hops bite, dark fruit. OK carbonation.

Dark brown-black with a short tan-coloured head. Deliciously strong smell of toasted grain, chocolate, and bitter hops. Taste starts as delicious caramel, roasted malt, and hops, but quickly transitions into a long, unpleasant tinny finish. Not very well balanced, but would be fantastic without the metallic end on finish.

Bottle. Very very dark ruby body with a moderate tan head. Creamy aroma, flavour has some malt and a dry roastiness and a fairly dry finish. Mondial 3T (Radek).

Sweet medium roasted malt that seemed to be a bit like a bock. Medium bodied, slightly oily texture. Smooth mellow with bunch of soft malt. Short finish.

Dark black color, medium head. Roasted malts, slightly sweet. Nicely hopped, good balance. Mouthfeel is full and round. Smooth taste. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Sweet, malty nose. Dark body. Head is foamy at first but flattens too soon. Smooth. Bready entry. Full of malt. Slightly sweet finish: a little too sweet for me. Mild. Drinkable and light-bodied.

Aroma hard to detect Dark red-brown, lowish head. Slight malt taste which lingers a bit, generally too bland however.

Meaty, lactic, licorice aroma. Clear, dark brown with thin off-white ring of head. Lactic, meaty flavour. Smooth but thick mouthfeel. Lifeless and still. Bottle (sampled at Mondial 2004).
