Draft@Garricks Head Pub, Victoria, Canada. Black beer with a strong head. The aroma has some hops, some smokiness but quite mild. The flavour is malty and roasted with a fair dry finish. Overall a reasonable mildly malty and roasted beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

An odd, indescribable smell wafts from the glass. Sits in the glass like a black elixir. This came as perhaps one of the most pleasant surprises of my beer sojourn to Vancouver. More than a lager with dark food coloring, this possessed complexity and malty character that made me contemplate its depths. Bravo!

a medium bodied dark lager with whiffs of chocolate. Not too great and a bit thin, but not bad.

probstblueribbon (2378) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 23, 2007
341 mL bottle from BC Liquor Stores, served almost cold in a rocks glass.

App.: Fairly dark cola, clear, mocha head that dissipates quickly. Aroma: Tight nose, kinda dirty and skunky with some odd earthy, nutty notes. A bit of roasted malt as it warms (I’m stretchin’ it here...). Palate: Medium body and fairly full, sharp carbonation. Flav.: Some roasted malt notes, bread crust/toast, a bit nutty, maybe a bit of floral hops in the background. Finishes with a hint of bitterness and little residual roastiness.

Schwach, Herr Hermann. Nicht so gut.

[bottle] Toasty aroma with some dried fruit and a touch of nuts. Almost opaque black with a beige ring and wisps. Slightly chalky flavour that is nutty and with hazelnuts. Sweet and medicinal with herbs and faint vanilla. Light body, moderate carbonation, slightly nutty finish.
