3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught at Malone’s Urban Drinkery, Vancouver
Dark amber to brown color, clean, with persistent beige creamy head. The aroma is mild, and strangely it’s fruity (peach and apricots), followed by the idea of caramel. It has a very light caramel flavor with some more peachy fruitiness; the bitterness is very low, and there is a very light dusty impression too.
Peculiar, drinkable, easy, not bad. But Altbier is a different thing; in any case, apart from the peachy character, there is not much else going on here.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap. Poured clear golden color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malt and soft hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle 341 ml
Aroma: clean, straight but wit too much of chocolate for Alt beer. Backing is better but still too fruity for style.6+
Look: proper., actually very good. Nice shade of amber-brown. Medium off white top. Sparse lace. 4-
Taste: medium bodied. Mineral feel with Schwartz bier like elements. Dark roast with sweet cola. hint of chocolate.
Other: it does have some alt character but it is not one.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
GCBF 2010. Dark amber, clear. More caramel and less toast than the Piper’s Pale. Still quite thin in the body. I was surprised to see this listed as an alt.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
[Bottle (341ml).] Pours a deep orange-amber with an average size diminishing frothy off-white head. Aroma is lightly sweet, malty and fruity along with some grain and nuts. Flavour of caramel malt, notes of fruit and nuts and no hops to speak of. Average bodied. Too mild and average for me, it’s clean and inoffensive at least.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tap at Christies. Light honey roasted nose. Light brown, fine carbonation, creamy white head. Has a bit of the alt roastiness but not much body to back it up, could also do with a slightly spicier finish. Ok easy drinking beer though.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle, sampled at Firefly Fine Wines and Ales, pours dark amber. Flavour is more caramel malty than the Piper’s and Honey Brown, though still quite thin and uninteresting.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap, brewery. Pours a clear dark amber body with a small frothy beige head, nice retention. Smells of caramel and crystal malt, light floral hops. Nice toasty malt, moderate bitterness, not overly sweet. Finishes with some decent bitey hops. Medium bodied, a touch sticky, fizzy carbonation. Above average for the style.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
I’m really going to have to investigate this beer further as I only found it today on tap at the Garrick’s Head Pub in Victoria and am surprised that this is categorized as an ALT??? Intrigued, I ordered it but was immediately turned off by the POPCORN aroma which carried into the taste. Really thin texture and somewhat void of malt base but the buttery popcorn flavour continues to to dance in the back of my mind. Poor.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled (2 - 4oz samples) at VCBW 2012 at the Salt Building in Vancouver poured amberin color with a finger of white head that leaves very little lacing behind. Aroma is mild caramel and light hops. Light to medium bodied with mild carbonation. As far as amber ales go, this one is easy to drink and somewhat tasty, but there are better choices for this style as this one is just average.
