COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the ocean mist glistening in the air, huge swells rolling in from the mighty Pacific and the fury of the gales howling it must be storm season. Much like the storms of the West Coast, our Winter Lager rolls in with notes of caramel and finishes with a crash of malt. Pouring a warm amber-red, this lager combines honey, caramel and crystal malts to create a thirst quenching and slightly warming beer perfect for our winter storms.

Brown with a pale head. Aroma is raisins, bubblegum, dates. Medium-full bodied, syrupy mouthfeel, sweet on the palate. Taste is bubblegum, caramel, marshmallow. Kind of sickly.

Smell is sweet and yeasty and lager like. Taste is malty with very light spicing of some kind perhaps with a yeasty finish. Decent.

Tap, brewery. Pours a clear dark caramel with a minimal thin ring of white head. The nose is huge caramel and toasted malt, lots of toffee in here. Smells more like candy than beer. The flavor is just as sweet and sticky as expected. Sugar overload in this one. It’s like drinking thin light maple sugar. Sticky, clingy, fizzy carbonation. Can’t take too much of this one, might just induce me into a diabetic state.

Lagerboy (1294) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 1, 2013
341 ml bottle. Clear medium copper, small foamy tan head fades fast. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Tastes like a thin bready malty lager infused with caramel/toffee/vanilla flavoring.Sweet, but not cloying. Light carbonation, light bodied, low hopped. Some faint bitterness. Winter lagers don’t generally work, leave it to the ales. LBW Lagerboys Be Wary)

(Draught) At Victoria’s Bard & Banker Pub. Pours a copper body with a thin, white creamy head. Nose of melon and slight tobacco. Flavour of cantaloupe, citrus hops and red malt. Some nice and enjoyable aspects to this fairly low-key winter seasonal.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, 5.5% ABV
Amber color, with small head. The aroma smells a bit of dirty water, and light caramel. Some caramel flavor, with a papery and nutty character, a hint of generic spices, candi sugar touch, ordinary bitterness.
Not very good.

On draft. I think this is a lager for ale lovers? Honey caramel and crystal malts don’t make a fresh crisp lager in this case apparently. Just a really sweet one, with no finish. Not terrible, but lacks character.

On tap at The Met. Nice dark amber colour and a bit of head, but flavour wise it’s pretty much a bust. Okay if you’re allergic to hops. It’s a bit malty and way too sweet. I expect more hops in my beer. Case closed.

On tap. Pours brown with little head. Aromas of cereal, light caramel, and malts. Full and slightly sweet. Flavors of dough, brown sugar, honey, and malts. Definite lager bread/cereal/dough notes otherwise could pass as a decent ale.

Pours ruby-amber with thin, dissipating head. Aroma is bread, caramel, vanilla and a touch of honey. Taste is bland at first, but sweeter as you go. Lighter-bodied, thin and lagery, well carbonated with a long, fading candy finish. Easy to drink, but a little sickly sweet for my taste.
