2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
One of my more bogan friends conned me into trying this, otherwise I would have probably avoided it. Drank it straight out of the bottle, bogan style. Wasn’t expecting anything good from something with the VB logo on it, but holy shit, the aroma of this is EXACTLY like Steinlager, very fresh, lots of greenery and citrus. Have we stumbled upon something decent? Took a sip, and the flavour was once again reminiscent of Steinlager but sadly quite a bit more watery, although on a stinking hot day that would be nice. I was starting to doubt that CUB were responsible for this beer at all, until I swallowed it. The palate was pure Carlton Draught, dry, moderately bitter and very rust esque, although not as strong as the aforementioned. This one is nothing remotely special, it may seem as if I’ve rated it a bit highly but considering the abominations CUB bombard us with on a regular basis, this is like a shining nugget of gold. Far better then you’d imagine.

355ml bottle. A very bland and boring beer. Just another beer to join the low carb fade.

2.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The funky, unpleasant aroma that is common to many CUB beers hits as soon as the bottle is opened. Not pleasant. Slightly cloudy amber appearance, reasonably high carbonation. Tart, light flavour; not terrible - perhaps a bit watery.

375ml bottle, 4.6% a/v. Pours a slightly dark lager colour, with a mediocre white head. Aroma is very average lager fair, nothing worth noting at all. Taste is also very average however well balanced, and a good every day brew. Aftertaste is very normal and nothing worth commentig on. Overall.. pretty average.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Kinda lke Carlton Draft off the tap (think lifeless slightly stale malt character). Nose isn’t too bad with a mild hoppy note. Notwithstanding the crap flavours there is an attractive crispness in the structure.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle into its own glass. Doesn’t appear bright, there is a mild haze (chill haze?) to it. Forced carbonation plays with the soda-pop bubbles evident in its medium gold body. A thin lather of white tops it off but is short lived. Herbal, peppery and weedy nose, very clean. Mildly sweet, biscuity malt start, dries out from then on, the body quite light and carbonation adequate and spritzy. Lime-like sourness down the sides, peppery back-end with a short bitter bite on the swallow. Ends crisp, clean and vacant. It has flavour, merited, a lot better than its woeful green big brother. Can’t complain on this one! (35,5cL, BB 05/06/11, Thirsty Camel Butler)
