3 - 4oz samples at the VCBW 2012 in the Salt Building while on vacation in Vancouver pours a dark brown color with a finger of off-white head that leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is dark roasty malts with some floral and citrus. Taste is a citrusy hop bitterness with a light chocolate malty sweetness underneath. Light to medium body with mild carbonation. Quite a tasty brew and a good representation of the style, definitely recommended.

Very strongly roasted malt here, tastes like more black malt than average to me. The hops were very earthy. The strength of the malt actually allows me to say that this is a strongly balanced 5.5% IPA, which is weird, as a beer this hoppy is not typically balanced.

(650ml bottle) Courtesy of me. Good malt and hop base. Bitter hoppiness and cereal. One of the better collaborations I've had.

Deep brown pour with a thick white head. The nose is a little bit earthy. Soft brown malt flavour backed by some earthy hop character. As it warms it has a little touch of fruity hoppiness as well. Really well balanced. Malty without being sweet. Simple but really easy to put back.

Lots of roast, biscuit and chocolate character in the nose. Clear deep brown body is topped by a light, large bubbled, beige head that recedes to a rhin cover with some light lacing. Flavour is perhaps overly roasty and hop character is obscured. Assertive roasty bitterness is long lasting. Medium body is perhaps a bit watery in texture though lightly prickly carbonation offsets this somewhat. Tulip glass. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in May 2012.

Pours dirty brown with a little bit of head that leaves some lacing. Aromas of earthy hops, grapefruit. Quite strong hop presence in the aroma. On the palate its all hops. No balance. Disappointing, really.

On tap at alibi room. Clear amber. Sticky lacing. Taste is citrus hop smoke. Aroma of damp wood. Not bad.

I was really looking forward to this as a collaboration beer but I was disappointed.
I was at St Augustine’s so had this on tap there, beautiful colour and a really attractive aroma that had my mouth watering before I tasted it. Not overly carbonated so a really nice mouth feel and leaves the mouth feeling clean so pairs well with greasy food.
Hops can make or brake a beer and whilst you can taste what must have been a delicious brown ale underneath it all, the hops are so predominant that the beer loses all character as a result.

650 ml bottle from Firefly. Pours a dark brown with persistent light head. Pleasant fruity malt aroma. Metallic to start but followed by dark fruit, green vegetable, and light citrus/pine flavors. Distinct. Maybe this one needs to sit for a bit though low in alcohol. Worth a second visit.
