Vedett, a blond, light, well hopped premium beer with 5.2% alcohol content, is the cult Duvel Moortgat beer today: following its birth in 1945, it quickly acquired fame and recognition within an intimate circle of insiders in the Antwerp-Brussels region. But do not think for a moment that this oldtimer is thinking about retirement, quite the contrary. For the past years, Vedett has been going through a second childhood in a number of trendy cafés located mainly in big cities. The secret of its charm? A retro-look, a capricious taste, Vedett-allure and the "golden touch" of the brewery. These past years, the brewery armed Vedett with an innovative, hip, young and slightly absurd image. A successful strategy, especially with the youth: Right now, you'll find Vedett in Belgian Delhaize supermarkets and most Flemish cities as well as in Brussels. And the follow-up to the story? You can read it at www.vedett.com.

330 ml green bottle bought at Market Place by Jasons in iSquare, Tim Sha Tsui.

Fairly pale golden yellow colour; Three-quarter finger head and white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Good sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation; Aroma of full lager malt, with strong thick bread, strong yeast, faint hint of wet paper, faint lemon and very light grass; Near zero sweet taste of moderate-to-light malt, with barley grains, white bread, lemon, close to moderate bitter hops and notable grass; Mid to light body. Slick and slightly thick palate; Mouth feel is more than a Pale Lager - very solid maltyness despite its underlying ‘light’ feel, certainly better than macros. No off-taste, sweetness is minimal, lots of carbo, plus mostly white breadyness and yeast. Pretty good!... Hoppiness is faint lemon and light grassy nose, very notable lemon and grass in taste. Moderate to low bitterness for an pleasant semi-finish; Fairly dry after taste. Very easy, and fulfilling to mouth.

Comments: I thought I was going to be put off by this hipster wannabe Pale Lager. As it turns out , it fulfills beyond macro Pales, half way through being a Premium Lager with some hoppy traits of a Pilsener. Almost faultless and easily enjoyable, I am pleasantly surprised. A keeper!

Pish. Very pale yellow, vapid pish. A, "capricious taste", hey? Well it certainly changed my mood rapidly.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2014 330ml bottle served in its own long and thin thumbler. A: Pours a pale clear yellow color. Forms a modest white head. Low retention and few lacings left S: Mild smell of sweet grains, lager yeasts and grassy hops. T: Nice sweet grains upfront. Grassy hops. Lager yeasts. End is quite hoppy and bitter. In overall, a dry and crispy taste M: Light body, medium carbonation. Good earthy hoppy aftertaste O: Good drinkability. A good Lager like this is not something easy to find. UPDATED: OCT 13, 2014 Very unremarkable lager. Honestly, many of Belgium’s larger macro lagers have much more character than this.

Geurt Duits, hoppig. Weinig smaak. Veel koolzuur. Beetje zuur. Ik zou meer hop(bloemen) willen proeven. Moet erg koud gedronken worden. Aangename dorstlesser maar verder oninteressant bier.

At 't Kroegske, Oostende.  Ordered something random I hadn't heard of from the beer menu, and ended up with this inoffensive (if uninteresting) lager. Fizzy yellow with a fluffy white head. Aroma is bread, clover. Light bodied, crisp on the palate with a high carbonation. Taste is white bread, straw, hint of chamomile.

Bottle. Another bland, incredibly boring Belgian lager, on par with the infamous Jupiler. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle. Very pale yellow color. Medium size, white head, stays. Somewhat spicy hops, straw, mild buttery notes in aroma. Straw, malty, faint hops in taste. Mild bitterness. Slight hoppy notes in aftertaste.
