Vedett, a blond, light, well hopped premium beer with 5.2% alcohol content, is the cult Duvel Moortgat beer today: following its birth in 1945, it quickly acquired fame and recognition within an intimate circle of insiders in the Antwerp-Brussels region. But do not think for a moment that this oldtimer is thinking about retirement, quite the contrary. For the past years, Vedett has been going through a second childhood in a number of trendy cafés located mainly in big cities. The secret of its charm? A retro-look, a capricious taste, Vedett-allure and the "golden touch" of the brewery. These past years, the brewery armed Vedett with an innovative, hip, young and slightly absurd image. A successful strategy, especially with the youth: Right now, you'll find Vedett in Belgian Delhaize supermarkets and most Flemish cities as well as in Brussels. And the follow-up to the story? You can read it at www.vedett.com.

Een biertje dat vlot wegdrinkt maar waar toch nog wat smaak aan is. Niet slecht.

33cl bottle. Pours pale like a Corona, with thin white head. Weak aroma. Taste of corn, rice, grass. Unpleasant reedy aftertaste. Appears to be a case of too much emphasis on trendy marketing and not enough attention to the beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours pale gold with a decent, lasting, white lumpy head. Nose is fresh lemon and some fresh grasses. Taste is fresh too. Lemon and grassiness. There’s a taste in the palette, which is earthy. Not unpleasant, but "balancing".

Pint from Bridge Tavern Newcastle. Seemed like end of barrel as a touch sour. Other than that average - bready, not a ton of flavour.

Pale golden color with white mediaum-lasting head. Aroma of sweet malts, fruits and hops. Taste is smooth, with citrus and malts in front and sweet sugar on the background. Moderate bitterness on the aftertaste.

Can @ St. Nicolas, Brussels. Pours light yellow with a white head. Aroma of malt, grain, little yeast, light grass. Flavor is malty, sweet, grain, light grass and a little sourness. Medium body, lively carbonation. 290714

Bottle. Pours a very bright and translucent Pilsner color with a nice foam head. Looks a little like bubbles from soap. Aroma is a little yeasty, but refreshing. Some potato chips in there. Little skunky (amonia) as well (stale beer?). Taste is watery, thirst quencher. Strange development, after taste is a little like potato chips again.

Simple Belgian lager beer. Grainy, bitter, but also slightly artificial. Always around on hipster locations.

A pale yellow spritzy beer with a loose white head. Clean aroma of hops and candy sugar, with some lemon peel and dry grass. In the mouth it’s light malts, a bit of milky toffee, and wet paper (not cardboard). Ends with a citrus note and more candied sugar. Very carbonated and there’s a bit of a mineral taste from that. Refreshing and balanced, there are no fireworks here but then again there weren’t going to be any anyway.
