Nice IPA but nothing more. Nose is very promising, but beer doesn’t really deliver. Short finish, and poor foam make this an IPA that does not really stand up against similar IPA´s.

IPA since 2014 under the successful Vedett brand. Nicely sticking, off-white, thick, dense, moussy head which decreases but retains, colour a deep golden blond with steady sparkling, somewhat hazy at first but cloudy with deposit. The aroma clearly gives away dry-hopping, with loads of green hops, impressions of freshly cut grass, dried citrus peel, jute, gin, faint banana, old cheese, mango, apple peel, straw. Fresh fruity taste, some red berries and unripe peach, bit yeasty, some refreshingly sourish wheat, soft bready malts, (too) low carbonation; finish is entirely dominated by a confident, spicy, resinous, somewhat citrussy and peppery hop bitterness with a long, dry, thirst-quenching effect. It’s actually easy to judge this: it is far from common for Belgian family brewers to adopt American styles, but since they’re here now anyway, Moortgat apparently thought "if you can’t beat them, join them". So let’s not compare this with the great Anglo-Saxon IPAs we all know and love: let’s welcome this instead, since this kind of brew means a Belgian family brewer stuck his head out to venture into a style no average Belgian consumer has heard of so far. Yes, there are precedents, Houblon Chouffe and the - meanwhile retired - Brigand IPA, but this is the first one made by a mainstream Belgian brewery which kind of convinces me the IPA style will slowly be accepted by the average Belgian consumer - much like he adopted the standard pale ale style almost a century ago. Kudos to Moortgat: contrary to many other Belgian family brewers, the creator of the great Duvel at least has the guts to venture into styles which so far have only been practiced by micro brewers, which remain largely unknown to Belgian beer drinkers. I applaud them for that, even though I had dozens of ’bigger’ and better IPAs than this. Have some points for the guts of putting this onto the mainstream market!

This is a great interpretation of what an IPA should taste like. Vedett beers seem to only be getting better with time. And hops.

When u buy this beer in Belgium, by seeing the banners in the supermarket or on the road, you’re expecting big innovations and a totally new beer. But it isn’t. I think this beer is created on a friday afternoon. I don’t discover new things or innovations, just an ordinairy pilsener with some additives in it. Aroma is okay. But that’s all. Taste is horrible.. It tastes more like fruit juice containing beers than a beer with 6%. This is a good example for what Duvel Moortgat is actually doing by their beers, they merchandise and market their beers, that’s all

Fine bouquet upon opening the bottle. Why the walrus on the label? Must be a private joke :)

A moderate beer in all aspects: sweetness and bitterness, some hops to it. Palate is quite refreshing but also watery. Not a full mouthfeel. The hops make it dry. Aroma of fruits, citrus and herbs. Pours clear golden and light; almost no head. Enjoyable.

De geur is goed, de smaak is een typische ipa, niet echt mijn ding. Dan zijn er betere

Golden with medium white cap, nice aroma. Taste balanced, but a bit watery, some sweetness in the beginning and moderate bitterness afterwards.
