It’s my first Landbier and probably my last if this is common for the style. No hop bitterness and I mean none. Did they forget the hops? OK, so this is a malty beer! I like malty beers, but not this one. Robust is one of the last words I’d use to describe this malty beer. I find it to be too dilute and quite boring overall. However, it is a well made beer, if you like hopless beers with a bland malt profile. It also had a weird bean sprout aroma that I’ve noticed in a few other beers. I need to figure out what that is so I never brew with it.

2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20 Ernest (5627) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 30, 2012
Bottle.
Head is initially large, frothy, rocky, light brown, fully lasting.
Body is dark amber-brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (dog food, wort, caramel, toasted grain, husks), with a note of vegetables (okra).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, husky, slightly unclean.
Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation.
It’s really kind of shame the quality on these is so low, because in this particular case the appearance and mouthfeel are quite lovely. Large, rocky, lasting head, and a nice fluffy/velvety mouthfeel. But man, it just smells like raw wort, dog food, and okra. Blah.

bottle - Pours brown with a very minimal light tan head. It smells of caramel malt and a hint of dark fruit. It tastes sweet with caramel, bread, and fruity flavored. Softly carbonated, flavorful, and light to medium bodied, it’s a good, very drinkable brew.
