Ein uriges Dunkel mit Brautradition, das auch vielen Gästen der Region ans Herz gewachsen ist. Vollmundig, würzig, extraktreich - ein Landbier im besten Sinn!

Whole Foods, Bowery 50cl ($4): Pours a brownish amber with an off-white head. Aroma is earth and caramel malts. Taste is pretty sweet. Mild hoppy tinge. A bit of a sugary aftertaste. Nice an well balanced. Reminds my of a more fulfilling oktoberfest.

Pours a dark red/caramel color with a creamy fluffy head. Aromas of bread, musty, earthy, floral hops, toffee, and slight caramel. Flavors very similar to the aromas. Medium bread(white bread), big toffee, musty, earthy, just a hint of floral hops(almost similar to a jasmine ester). Most bready beer I’ve ever had. Lightly sweet. More on the yeast side with malt to balance. First beer in this style. Different that what I’m used to. Have mixed feelings on this one.

Ruby Brown. Medium off-white head, lasting soapy topping, good lacing. ASweet, fruity, caramel, toffee, toasty. Light but full flavored body. Toasty, sorta dry hoppy, sweet. Crisp and refreshing. Smooth, fairly creamy. Very nice.

1 Pt. 0.9 Fl. Oz. Flip top Bottle. Poured clear dark amber with a medium head. Aroma is very malty combined with some fruits and grains. Taste starts quite sweet, from malts and fruits some yeast (bread flavor) to it too towards the end you’ll feel some smokiness and bitterness. Leaves you a dry aftertaste. Nice and drinkable.

UPDATED: JUN 5, 2013 50cl fliptop, pours deep reddish brown with a fine pinky-beige head, aromas of sweetish bready malt plus a little smoke and plum, then an initially rich and malty flavour segues into a bitter biscuity body with smoke, earth and grass hop notes, before finishing with a dry-bitter edge, still with a smoky edge. Very nice.

Bottle shared by nuplastikk...thanks Greg! - Pours light amber with a ring of white head. Really sweet and yeasty nose--it’s a little over the top. Sugary caramel, with hints of molasses. Can still smell the pale malt and some floral hopping. Taste is the same, with some mineral on the finish and some tropical fruit notes. Slick and medium in the mouth with very little carbonation.

500ml flip top bottle. Here is a weird one for you. Sort of has the brown chocolate baker tones of a dunkel, with the light, bland malt tones of a dark lager. Not really so expertly executed, also doesn’t seem so fresh. Sort of has that cheap Eastern European thing going on. Not impressive at all, boring, cheap, extract tasting dark lager.

500mL bottle. Poured a lovely shade of deep amber with a dense, well-retained beige head. The aroma picked up sweet, redder fruits and nutty malts with fresh, earthy grains beneath.. quite enjoyable. The flavor found buttery red fruits and light, tangy wheat over soft nutty and bready notes.. finished with a good blend of fruits and nutty malts. Light-medium bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. a little slick at times.. overall a very good beer.
