Pro pivo vařené z plzeňského a karamelového sladu a žateckého chmele je typická plná chuť a větší hořkost, která se projevuje díky chmelení ve čtyřech dávkách.

Bottle from Zly Casy Pivoteka, Prague. Somewhat hazy golden beer with a small offwhite head. Malty bready aroma, caramel, toffee notes, floral, some hay, some biscuits. Bready flavor, caramel, dough notes, toffee, some fruity notes, some hay. Very much a beer based on a strong malt profile. I really liked it.

Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!

dark honey colored body, clear. nose is heavily sweet, rich toffee malts and toasted. crisp and sharp, great malt depth, a little too much on the sweet side but the crispness and minerally texture is enjoyed. wonderfully nutty hop bite in the finish. delicious.

Draft at brewpub: Pristine gold. Tightly woven crown of stark-white foam. Pleasant nose of sugared toast, earthy iron-tinged yeast, and apricot marmalade. Faintly husky. Firm, oily body. Snug herbaceous bitterness aligns itself with a brisk snap of minerals and a malty cushion of toasted dough and hay. Closes dryly malty yet luscious with a floral hop punch gracefully curbed by a fresh bite of herbal hop bitterness. Earthy, dense and wonderfully polished.

1.5l PET bottle traded with Frankenland. Hazy golden yellow, large white head. Very hoppy nose. Full-bodied, solid fruity-malty base with lovely Saaz hop flavours on top. Dry and very hoppy, bitter-sweet character. Some resiny and grassy hoppy hints, pleasant mouthfeel and carbonation.

Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings.
-------- /> How: Tap at brewpub (Pivovar Velkorybnický Hastrman, Velky Rybnik, Czech Republic)
The look: Almost clear blonde body with a medium white head
To me a typical Czech Světlý 12° and above is: Well malted body with plenty of biscuits and cereals. Sweetness level is in the light-medium range with some honey flavours and a light caramel presence (3/4 honey, 1/4 caramel). Fruity flavour limited to a light citrus flavour. Medium carbonation. Finish is dry and moderately bitter with a light citric touch. After-taste of dry grassy/herbal hops with a light dry spiciness character.
This one: As above but a bit drier and toasted than average. Very good example of the style.
