330 ml bottle BB 060608. Cap had the BEPΓINA, but the bottle had Vergina. Golden color with a filmy white head. Fresh floral/grassy hop aromas. Near medium body with near creamy carbonation. Flavor seems rather citrus hop over pale malt. A little grassiness is noticeable in the finish. Lemongrass hop? Certainly rather different type of lager. Note from the web: BEPΓINA means Vergina, and that’s a small town in Macedonia. More: The Vergina Sun, Star of Vergina or Argead Star is the name given to a symbol of a stylised star or sun with sixteen rays. It was unearthed in 1977 during archaeological excavations in Vergina, in the northern Greek province of Macedonia, by Professor Manolis Andronikos. He discovered it on a golden larnax in the tombs of the kings of the ancient kingdom of Macedon.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2007 Pours a two finger white head that fades to a thin layer leaving a little lace. Light clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Hoppy nose. Starts nearly balanced just on the hoppy side, simple lager, slight hoppy-metallic aftertaste. Very similar to their Hillas. $1.49 for a 12oz bottle from John’s Grocery Iowa City, IA. Best before May 5, 2006 and still okay.

Nice yellow colour with decent looking carbonation, accompanied by a nice foamy head. Aroma is very sweet and malty. Very nice! taste is a little strange though, bitter yet lacking in much else. Decent in any event though. I am glad I got to try this one! thanks a lot to DOUG SHOEMAKER for hooking me up with this one!

Bottle poured yellow with a decent white head. Aroma of malt and a sharp spice kick. Flavor is malt, spice and grain with a bit of a metalic finish

This pours a nice golden, bubbly drink with a decent head. It’s a tad sweet for my liking with a heavy hand on the sweetness. It does fill the mouth nicely but finishes on the sour, winy side.

Bottled. Tried this because I wanted a Greek beer in a Greek restaurant. Tried to speak Greek with the manager -- he said I knew more Greek than he did. A big, long-lasting, off-white head on a tan-amber beer. Smell of malt with a note of hops. Not much else here. Taste is slightly sweet, almost sticky -- much rounder than I was expecting from a lager. Lots of carbonation. An okay beer -- don’t go across town to get one, but if you happen to be in a Greek restaurant, give one a try.
