(Bottle, Delirium Café, Brussels, 25 Oct 2014) Black colour with dense, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of caramel, dark fruit, raisins and dark bread. Malty, roasted taste with caramel, dark fruit, raisins, prunes, dark bread and a generous spicy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, fairly sweet. On the sweet side, but quite tasty. Nice one.

Piana drobna, miejscami średniopęcherzykowa. Kolor czarny, nieprzejrzyste. W aromacie wyczuwalne śliwki. Dość rześkie, świeże. Lekki winne nuty. W smaku wytrawne. Smak wytrawnego likieru. Znów pojawiają się śliwki i gorzka czekolada. Skojarzenie z pralinkami jest wyraźne. Lekko kwaskowe, wyczuwalne ciemne słody. Alkohol dobrze zamaskowany. Lekko lepkie odczucie w ustach. Mimo tej mocy i stylu piwo jest dość rześkie i wytrawne. Może trochę brakuje mu ciała. Ogólnie fajny, wytrawny imperial stout, ale trafiały się lepsze.

Black pour with a little white cap of head. Very sweet taste of prunes with a medium Belgium finish.

33cl bottle served in a snifter. Pours a dark brown colour with a fairly bubbly off white head which turns to localized areas of carbonation. Aroma is coffee and earthy notes. Taste is foremost redcurrant like tartness with maybe some sour cherries in the mix too which then turns to dark chocolate and coffee notes. Really quite complex and a victim of the style. This is really quite an enjoyable beer but in the company of other imperial stouts it really is a little over-carbonated and an odd combination of flavours. Worth trying if you keep your mind open.

Aromas of caramel, burnt raisin, vanilla, earthy. Black with a mostly lasting tan head. Mostly dry, subtle char, fruitiness is pretty prevalent, caramel flavors balance it out pretty nicely, raisiny finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle from Sugaya. Moderate pruney nose, plumped up raisins. Dark brown, thinhead, some lace. Rich dark fruit, some oxidation, lightly tingly hop followed by more sweet malt. Medium body. Tasty, with moderately full flavors.

Tailgating beer, this is not. Like most impy stouts, this is not. Something I like, this is not. Except for when it is all of these things or some combo.

Generally pleasant, somewhat leathery, peaty, faintly creosotic aroma. Clipart label. Tinny, strongly molasses in character, tangy, dark and dry fruit notes of dates and figs. Leathery. A little sugary. These Belgian mixpack are always tempting because of the new ticks, but invariably dissapoint. ABC Liquors, Betton.

skortila (4646) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - OCT 6, 2014
Bottled. full 33cl sample. The aroma has liquorice, cola, winegums, light roast, some chocolate. Black coloured beer with an off-white, medium head. The taste is moderate sweet, has fruity wine tones, lots of cola, some chocolate/’cacao fantasie’, some liquorice. Medium bodied. Well there are lots of different tastes in this beer but well most not the ones you want in a stout. I think Verhaeghe can do much better.
