Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of dark candy sugar, toffee, tobacco, earthiness, light fruittiness and a hint of spice. Palate was medium bodied and crisp. Flavors of toffee, tobacco, earthiness and fruittiness with a crisp lingering tobacco finish.

Aromas of caramel, burnt raisin, vanilla, earthy. Black with a mostly lasting tan head. Mostly dry, subtle char, fruitiness is pretty prevalent, caramel flavors balance it out pretty nicely, raisiny finish. Medium bodied.

Tailgating beer, this is not. Like most impy stouts, this is not. Something I like, this is not. Except for when it is all of these things or some combo.

Aurelius (4379) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - NOV 21, 2014
Generally pleasant, somewhat leathery, peaty, faintly creosotic aroma. Clipart label. Tinny, strongly molasses in character, tangy, dark and dry fruit notes of dates and figs. Leathery. A little sugary. These Belgian mixpack are always tempting because of the new ticks, but invariably dissapoint. ABC Liquors, Betton.

skortila (4625) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - OCT 6, 2014
Bottled. full 33cl sample. The aroma has liquorice, cola, winegums, light roast, some chocolate. Black coloured beer with an off-white, medium head. The taste is moderate sweet, has fruity wine tones, lots of cola, some chocolate/’cacao fantasie’, some liquorice. Medium bodied. Well there are lots of different tastes in this beer but well most not the ones you want in a stout. I think Verhaeghe can do much better.

33 cl. bottle obtained @ Willems en Zoon. Surprised to find an RIS by Verhaeghe, interesting. Dark red, dark brown, blackish. Taste is huge liquorish, you can smell it a mile away, dark black bread, reminiscent of kvass. Taste is sour cherry, pumpernickel bread, huge liquorish, huge kvass-like taste, some amarena cherries in the back, liquorish, light cross-over between cherry coca-cola & kvass, spices, red berries, lightly pricklish. Very strange brew, like a huge dose of black liquorish mixed with imperial kvass, dash of Duchesse De Bourgogne. Very unique brew, almost makes me wonder for a bit if this is intentional, nothing like anything I have ever tasted.

Bottle: Nearly black with a thin tan head. Chocolate and red wine aroma. Tangy, yeasty, dark fruit and cocoa taste.... Different take on a stout..... Tasty, though.
