tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 8, 2009 Pours a dingy Garnet
Tons and tons of head billows out fo the glass. not a gusher, but really foamy.
Aroma is strong on earthy tones , sour, and vinegar notes.
Flavor is woody, tart cherry, and mild wine acid and vinegar.
nice funk to it, but not too funky. all flavors play well. aletales (73), , Oklahoma, USA May 6, 2009 tried just a little bit of this as my first real "sour" ale. Beautiful color and head. Interesting tartness fading into sweetness in the finish. Plan to try again and rerate when I have more. tripelthreat (75), Soquel, California, USA May 6, 2009 330ml bottle. Another try after a nauseatingly sweet attempt many years ago. Small head on a reddish brown body. Nose is of raspberries and cherry, wood, and apple cider vinegar. Flavor is much of the same with sweetness and oak coming through very strong. Finish is short and fairly clean. While I’d like more acid, it’s a tasty and easy to drink sour. Sparky27 (1567), Phoenix, Arizona, USA May 5, 2009 11.2 oz bottle, best before 5/21/10. Pours clear dark reddish brown with a one finger light tan head that receded fast into a thin topper. The nose is sour cherries, wood, red wine vinegar and light funk. The taste is cranberry juice, cherry cough drops, malt vinegar and wood. Medium prickly mouthfeel. Sweeter than I anticipated from the aroma. A nice refreshing sour. noompa (130), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 2, 2009 750 ml. bottle (2009) in a snifter. Went through this beauty while working on an all-night research paper. More burgundy colored than the Rodenbach and noticeably sweeter. Less tart as well, but equally complex w/ more salty nuttiness. Ranks marginally below the Rodenbach and La Folie, but delightful nonetheless. RoJoNo (19), Ohio, USA May 1, 2009 Enjoyed this on tap at the Columbus Underground happy hour at Details; excellent sweet and sour combination not on a Chinese food buffet Pipper (226), Ohio, USA May 1, 2009 Straight from the bottle enjoyed on a summit over Lago Lugano, Switzerland. This was recommended to me by the wife/owner of A Tutta Birra in Milano as her favorite. Most interesting beer I’ve had so far in Italy. The aroma reminded me of rotting trash and at first sip so did the flavor. Further sips revealed sour cherries, dark fruits, apricot and vanilla. Incredibly smooth on the palate, absolutely no kick at the end. Much too sweet for me, almost could be considered a dessert beer in the same vein as dessert wines. deyholla (508), Bloomington, Indiana, USA May 1, 2009 Pours dark red with a pinkish head. Aroma is full of all types of fruit, berries and plums mainly with sour undertones. Starts off sour and builds to a sweet aftertaste. A little sweet for me but not bad.
